The much anticipated ICC World Test Championship (WTC 2021-23)  is slated on 7th June 2023 at The Oval. The spinners won’t get that much help from the surface but the likes of Nathan Lyon & Ravindra Jadeja have the knack of bowling long spells and can frustrate the batters with impeccable lines & lengths. Nathan Lyon had taken 22 scalps in the recently concluded BGT 2023 series and as the leading wicket-taker for Australia.

This is India’s consecutive appearance in the WTC final. Last time in WTC 2019-21 final the mighty New Zealand decimated India and dictated the terms. Skipper Rohit Sharma needs to make sure that he along with Shubman Gill blunt the new ball as the conditions in England would be quite grueling.

WTC 2021-23 Final is our grand final- Nathan Lyon

Nathan Lyon was having an interaction with AAP and he stated that the Aussies are focused first on WTC 2021-23 final and then on Ashes 2023. Nathan Lyon pointed out that both teams are evenly matched and was expecting a cracker of contest. The two sides are going to clash in ICC final after 2003.

“Yes, we are playing the Ashes but we’ve got a big game that we’re up for. This is our grand final, and then our season basically starts again. That’s probably where we’re quite happy with where we’re at with our planning. We are able to understand what we’ve got around the corner, and be OK,” said Nathan Lyon.

“Both teams are really well-rounded in their squads. It is going to be a really good challenge. India obviously have some class batters but they have some class fast bowlers as well. It’s going to be a good challenge. Both squads going at it and competing for one game, it’s going to be a really good challenge. It’s a fresh start. I’m looking forward to it,” he added.

Steep Road Ahead for India

India can’t afford to get complacent even if they had the wood over Australia in BGT 2023. The management would think twice before playing with 2 spinners as the spinners hardly get any help from the surface during the start of the summer.

The onus will be on the elegant left handed batter Usman Khawaja who most likely would aim to bat as deep as possible in the marquee clash. It would be a stern task for Aussie batters as India’s pacers like Mohammed Siraj & Mohammed Shami are in a good form.
