South Africa held their nerves in the end to secure a hat-trick of wins as they climbed upwards to 3rd in the points table. South Africa showed great discipline and will power to fight out there and then ultimately got over the line with 3 balls to spare. Losing the toss, they restricted Bangladesh to 232/6 in 50 overs despite 50s from Sharmin Akhter and Shorna Akter as Mlaba picked up 2 wickets and the other bowlers chipped in as well.
In reply, South Africa huffed and puffed towards the target as Marizanne Kapp’s half-century and Chloe Tryon’s half-century alongside Nadine de Klerk’s finishing role went a long way in helping South Africa win the contest. Nadine de Klerk showed her class as a finisher in Vizag for the second game in a row but Kapp and Tryon were the main contributors in this thrilling win. South Africa have climbed to 3rd in the table now only behind Australia and England.
Shorna Akter’s whirlwind half-century powers Bangladesh to a competitive 232/6
Winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Fargana Hoque and Rubya Haider came out to bat for Bangladesh while Marizanne Kapp had ball in hand for South Africa. Kapp started with a decent first over. Masabata Klaas had ball in hand from the other end and bowled a miserly over. Kapp continued and bowled another quiet over. Klaas kept things tight as usual. Kapp kept things under check again as Bangladesh struggled to get going.
Hoque broke the shackles finally as she danced down the track and slammed it past diving mid-off for a boundary. Hoque managed to get another boundary away by pulling it to backward square leg for a boundary. Kapp bowled another decent over. Klaas too kept things under check. Kapp also gave runs in singles and doubles at this stage.
Nadine de Klerk came into the attack to bowl the final over of powerplay. Haider joined the party as she got down on one knee and slog swept it away through forward square leg for a boundary. At the end of the first mandatory powerplay of 10 overs, Bangladesh were 28/0 and off to a slow, steady start.
Chloe Tryon came into the attack post the powerplay. Haider took her on as she got down on one knee and swept it firmly between the gap of deep midwicket and deep backward square leg for a boundary. Nadine continued and bowled a decent over. Tryon too kept things under check. Nadine bowled another decent over. Tryon once again kept things tight as runs came in singles and doubles with Bangladesh reaching 49/0 in 15 overs as the umpires called for the first drinks break.
The 50 came up for Bangladesh in 15.1 overs and of the partnership between the two players. Nadine bowled another quiet over. Tryon provided the first breakthrough for South Africa removing Haider for 25 off 52 balls with 2 fours to her name. Tryon tossed it up from over the wicket full and wide outside off-stump drifting away. Haider got down on one knee and looked to drag the slog sweep on the onside. She failed to clear de Klerk at mid-on. Haider mistimed the stroke and found de Klerk at mid-on who took a good low catch. Sharmin Akhter came out to bat next and got off the mark with a couple of runs.
Sharmin pounced on the short and wide outside off-stump as she reached for it and threw her hands at it to get a thick outside edge which raced away to the third man fence. Tumi Sekhukhune came into the attack next. She started her spell with a miserly over. Tryon continued and delivered a quiet over yet again. Sekhukhune continued and bowled another quiet over as Bangladesh reached 63/1 in 20 overs.
Nonkululeko Mlaba came into the attack next. Hoque played a cheeky shot by rocking back and guided it past the right of diving first slip for a boundary. Sekhukhune continued and kept the scoreboard under check. Mlaba continued to impress and kept things tight. Sekhukhune bowled another quiet over. Mlaba continued and dismissed Hoque for 30 off 76 balls with 3 fours to her name under extraordinary circumstances.

Mlaba tossed it up full around the leg stump gripped and turned away. Hoque got down on one knee and looked to sweep. She missed it as the ball might have come off the gloves as it lobbed up in the air and Jafta has taken the catch. TV umpire was called in. There was no spike as the ball hit the gloves but while checking LBW, the replays showed three reds and has to make way for other things to happen. Nigar Sultana came out to bat next as Bangladesh at the halfway stage of the innings were 73/2.
Masabata Klaas came back into the attack and bowled another miserly over. Mlaba continued as Sultana rocked back and cut the ball through cover point region for a boundary. Klaas was all guns blazing. Klaas bowled full on the pads, Sharmin flicked it away to midwicket region for a boundary. Mlaba continued as Sultana smashed her through the covers as she stayed back and slapped it through the covers for a boundary. Nadine de Klerk came back into the attack as Sultana got width offered and cut it away powerfully past left of backward point for a boundary as the 100 came up for Bangladesh in 30 overs as players took Drinks Break, the first one of the innings.
Tryon continued after the Break. She continued to keep things tight from her end. De Klerk also kept things tight as well. Nigar Sultana completed 1000 runs as Bangladesh captain in ODIs. Tryon continued and bowled a decent over. Nadine continued as Sharmin broke the shackles by pulling it through the gap as she rocked back and pulled it past the left of midwicket for a boundary. Tryon continued and bowled another miserly over.
Tumi Sekhukhune came back into the attack as Sultana hammered her through the onside by getting it into the gap between midwicket and mid-on for a boundary. Mlaba came back into the attack as Sharmin cut her away past backward point for a boundary as the 50-run stand came up between the two players. Sekhukhune continued as Sharmin tickled it away fine and away to the fine leg fence for a boundary. Mlaba continued as Sultana survived a close run out call as the direct hit at the bowler’s end would have had her. The throw missed as Sultana survived.
Sultana then got down on one knee and lapped it down to fine leg for a boundary. Sharmin then caressed Sekhukhune through the covers as she pressed forward and crunched it away through the covers for a boundary. The 150 came up for Bangladesh as they reached 150/2 in 40 overs with 10 crucial overs remaining in the innings.

Mlaba then removed Sultana for 32 off 42 balls with 5 fours to her name. Mlaba tossed it up full around middle and leg from around the wicket. Sultana stepped out and looked to club it over the top of short extra cover. She failed to clear her opposite number as she hit it flat and hard. Wolvaardt at short extra cover took a sharp catch. Shorna Akter came out to bat next.
Shorna got off the mark with a lovely sweep shot as she got down on one knee and swept it firmly past the left of diving deep backward square leg for a boundary. Chloe Tryon came back into the attack as Sharmin Akhter got to her fifty in her 50th ODI game off 74 balls as she held the innings together. Shorna then took on Tryon by coming down the track and tonked it over long-on for the maximum. Mlaba continued as a mix-up between the two meant Sharmin was run out for 50 off 77 balls with 6 fours to her name. Sobhana Mostary came out to bat next.
Mostary got off the mark by glancing it fine past short fine leg as the ball raced away to the fence. Tryon continued and bowled a tight over to finish her spell. Mlaba continued and finished the over and her spell as Bangladesh were 175/4 in 45 overs. Sekhukhune returned to the bowling crease as Shorna launched her down the ground by clearing the front leg and clubbed it over long-on for the maximum. Shorna was not done yet as she got the outside edge when she threw her hands at the ball as it went to the third man fence. She completed a hat-trick of boundaries by clearing mid-off for a boundary. 18 came off this over.
Nadine de Klerk came back into the attack as Sobhana Mostary was run out for 9 off 8 balls with a boundary to her name as the direct hit from Sekhukhune hit the bulls eye at the striker’s end. Rabeya Khan came out to bat next and was cleaned up by Nadine de Klerk for a silver duck. Nadine bowled it full and straight at the stumps right in the block hole. Rabeya failed to get her bat down in time and missed it on the under edge and the ball shattered the stumps. Ritu Moni came out to bat next.
Marizanne Kapp returned to the attack. The 200 came up for Bangladesh in 47.3 overs. Moni took on Kapp and hit her for hat-trick of boundaries first through backward point and third man fence and then got it past short fine leg fence. Moni then sliced it past right of backward point as Kapp was taken to the cleaners. Nadine bowled the 49th over as Shorna got down on one knee and smoked it over deep midwicket for the maximum.
Sekhukhune was tasked to bowl the final over of the innings. Shorna reached her half-century off 34 balls and was the fastest fifty by a Bangladeshi player in ODIs. In the end, Bangladesh finished with a competitive 232/6 in 50 overs with the last 10 overs going for 82 runs. Shorna was unbeaten on 51 off 35 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes to her name while Ritu Moni was unbeaten on 19 off 8 balls with 3 fours to her name. 16 extras given by the fielding side.

Chloe Tryon & Marizanne Kapp’s sparkling half-centuries takes South Africa over the line in a tense chase
Chasing 233 for the win, captain Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits came out to bat for South Africa while Marufa Akter had ball in hand for Bangladesh. Marufa bowled a decent first over. Nahida Akter came onto bowl from the other end and she struck straightaway getting rid of Tazmin Brits for a golden duck. Nahida from around the wicket bowled an arm ball short of a length delivery around off-stump. The ball holds onto the surface as Brits rocked back and chipped it back to the bowler from the toe end of the bat. Anneke Bosch came out to bat next.
Marufa continued as Wolvaardt flicked it away past left of short fine leg for a boundary. Nahida continued and bowled a miserly over. Rabeya Khan came into the attack next. Wolvaardt caressed her through the covers for a boundary by welcoming Rabeya to the attack. Wolvaardt was then dropped by Rabeya off her own bowling as the South African captain got a reprieve. Nahida continued as Bosch got down on one knee and shuffled across the stumps to sweep it past the right of diving backward square leg for a boundary.
Rabeya continued as Bosch took the aerial route by getting down on one knee and slog swept it aerially towards the midwicket fence. Wolvaardt then climbed onto Nahida by hitting her for two consecutive boundaries through deep midwicket fence and through cover point region. Marufa came back into the attack. Bosch got down on one knee and helped it on its way past short fine leg for a boundary. Bosch two balls later rocked back and cut it away past the right of diving backward point fielder. Rabeya bowled another tight over as South Africa reached 39/1 in 10 overs.
Fahima Khatun came into the attack post the powerplay. She got off the mark straightaway. Bosch then got underneath it and pumped it over top of mid-on for a boundary. Rabeya continued and bowled a decent over. Fahima continued as Wolvaardt danced down the pitch and stayed leg side of the ball to drive it through extra cover for a boundary.
The 50-run stand came up between Bosch and Wolvaardt. Ritu Moni came to the attack next. Moni started with a quiet over. Khatun too kept it tight while a miscommunication led to Laura Wolvaardt being run out for 31 off 56 balls with 5 fours to her name trying to take the second run and falling short of the target. Annerie Dercksen came into the crease next.
Bosch hit Moni into the gap between extra cover and mid-off for a boundary. Moni got rid of Bosch for 28 off 35 balls with 6 fours to her name. Moni bowled a good length delivery around off-stump. Bosch leaned forward and looked to take the aerial route and sliced it aerially from the outer half of the blade. Mostary at mid-off moved to her left and took an easy catch. Marizanne Kapp came to the crease as Drinks was taken at this stage.

Nahida returned to the attack and bowled a miserly over. Moni too kept things under check. Rabeya then removed Derecksen for 2 off 11 balls. Rabeya tossed it up full around off-stump gripped and turned away from the wicket. Derecksen prod forward to defend and she played down the wrong line. She got beaten on the outside edge and the ball crashed onto the top of off-stump. Sinalo Jafta came out to bat next and got off the mark. Kapp then hit Rabeya for a boundary by rocking back and opened the bat face and carved it away past the left of backward point for a boundary. Moni continued as Jafta survived another close shout as the direct hit missed the stumps.
Moni continued as she bowled a decent over. South Africa were 71/4 in 20 overs. Fahima Khatun returned to the bowling crease. She kept things tight at one end. Moni also bowled a very decent over. Fahima cleaned up Jafta for 4 off 13 balls. Fahima from over the wicket bowled a short of a length delivery around off-stump pitched and skidded through the surface. Jafta hung back and opened the bat face and looked to play the late cut. She missed it and the ball clipped the top of off-stump. Chloe Tryon came out to bat next and got off the mark soon.
Rabeya bowled another quiet over as South Africa reached 85/5 in 24 overs. Khatun continued and bowled another quiet over. At the halfway stage of the chase, South Africa were 89/5. Shorna Akter came into the attack next. Sultana dropped a tough chance off Shorna as Sultana was the batter in question. Marufa came back into the action. Tryon bowled a length ball wide outside off-stump, Tryon opened the bat face and carved it away to the backward point fielder. The 100 came up for South Africa in 26.4 overs. Tryon cut Marufa away past the right of backward point for a boundary.
Shorna continued and bowled a decent over. Nahida came back into the attack as Tryon took toll of the lose delivery down on one knee and swiped it past the right of short fine leg for a boundary. Rabeya continued as South Africa reached 118/5 in 30 overs in the chase of 233. Fahima bowled a quiet minor event.
Shorna returned to the attack and bowled a decent over. Fahima continued as she was swept well by Kapp who went down on one knee and nailed the sweep as the 50-run stand came up between the two players. Moni quietly bowls a maiden over. Drinks was taken now as South Africa reached 133/5 in 34 overs. Sobhana Mastery came into the attack next. Kapp welcomed Mostary by getting down on one knee and turned it away behind square on the leg side for a boundary.
Moni continued and bowled a miserly over. Mostary continued and bowled another quiet over. Moni once again bowled a miserly over. The direct hit at the bowler’s end was missed. Rabeya continued and bowled another quiet over. Kapp broke the shackles as she took advantage of a juicy full toss, Kapp cleared her front leg and tonked it over the wide long-on fence for a maximum. This was her 16th ODI fifty as she reached her fifty off 67 balls.
Kapp then went down on one knee and lapped it down to the fine leg fence for a boundary. Kapp survived another close run out call as Kapp got there in time. After 40 overs, South Africa were 162/5.
Nahida came back and got rid of Kapp for 56 off 71 balls with 4 fours and one maximum to her name. Nahida from around the wicket tossed up delivery full around off-stump gripped and turned away. Kapp pressed forward and looked to thump it over the long-off fence. She mistimed it from the toe end of her blade. The fielder at long-off came in to settle underneath it and took a good catch. Nadine de Klerk came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway.

Fahima returned as de Klerk shuffled far too across the stumps. She nailed the sweep shot between the gap of deep square leg and deep midwicket for a boundary. Tryon then got an under edge for a boundary off Moni as the short of a length delivery outside off-stump. Tryon threw her hands at it. She got an under edge which went through the legs of Sultana as the ball went away to the fence.
Rabeya continued as Tryon was dropped by the fielder in the deep midwicket region as the fielder got to it and dropped the catch. The ball went away to the fence as she reached her fifty in 64 balls. This was her 14th ODI fifty. Tryon took on Rabeya by nailing the slog sweep over wide long-on for the maximum.
Tryon then punched Rabeya off the back foot through the backward point region as the fielder misfielded to let the ball go to the backward point fence. There was a collision between de Klerk and Nahida and Nahida got really hurt and was treated by the physio which caused a pause in play. Tryon then was run out for 62 off 69 balls with 6 fours and a maximum to her name as a mix-up led to Tryon short of her crease at the striker’s end. Masabata Klaas came out to bat next as South Africa are 198/7 in 45 overs and needed 35 runs to win off 30 balls.
Moni continued as the 200 came up for South Africa in 45.4 overs. Moni bowled a good over and completed her spell. Nadine de Klerk took on Fahima by shuffling far too across the stumps and helps it away past the right of wide short fine leg for a boundary. Fahima overstepped and then the free hit was put away by Nadine up and over extra covers for a boundary. Nahida continued as Klaas took advantage off the full toss on the middle and leg stump with the batter used the pace of the ball and paddled it down to the fine leg fence for a boundary.
Rabeya was given the task to bowl the 49th over. Nadine got a reprieve in the 49th over as Shorna Akter at long-off dropped de Klerk and with it the match as well. It was a decent second last over and now 8 was needed off the last over. Nadine de Klerk hit Nahida by clearing the infield as she made room for herself and carved it away over top of backward point for a boundary.
After facing a dot ball, Nadine de Klerk decided enough was enough as she hit Nahida off a full toss around middle and leg stump. Nadine stepped out and went for a big heave and mistimed from the splice of her bat but she got enough power behind it. The fielder at deep midwicket ran to her right as the ball went over her for the maximum. Nadine de Klerk did it for South Africa for the second game in a row as a finisher.
Nadine remained unbeaten on 37 off 29 balls with 4 fours and a maximum to her name while Klaas was unbeaten on 10 off 13 balls with a boundary to her name. 5 extras given by Bangladesh as South Africa got over the line by 3 wickets and 3 balls to spare.
Bangladesh bowlers gave their hearts out and tried their best. Nahida Akter finished with 2/44 in 9.3 overs. Rabeya Khan finished with 1/48 in 10 overs. Fahima Khatun finished with 1/51 in 10 overs. Ritu Moni was miserly for her 1/29 in 10 overs. There were two run outs in the innings. Marufa Akter gave 27 runs in 4 overs. Shorna Akter gave away 25 runs in 4 overs. Sobhana Mostary bowled 2 overs for 9 runs. So, South Africa win by 3 wickets and for her outstanding performance, Chloe Tryon was awarded the Player of the Match Award.
