After the heartbreaks of the WTC final and World Cup final losses in 2023, Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma were determined to end their tenures on a high note and it happened as India won the T20 World Cup 2024, going undefeated in the tournament. Arshdeep Singh proved to be the best bowler for India as he picked up 17 wickets in 8 games and ended up as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi.

Incidentally, Arshdeep Singh was part of the Indian U19 team that won the Youth World Cup in 2018 under Rahul Dravid’s guidance and the Punjab pacer posted a collage of the two photos with a lovely message for Dravid. Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh took to X to share a picture with departing Indian head coach Rahul Dravid. The left-arm pacer played a crucial role in his team’s win in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa in Barbados on Saturday, June 29.

Arshdeep shared a picture where in the left half, he had posed with the 2018 U19 World Cup trophy and with then-head coach Dravid. Six years on, Arshdeep and Dravid took a picture together again, this time with the T20 World Cup trophy as seen in the right half of the photo.

Arshdeep was magnificent with the ball in the final against South Africa as he picked up the big wicket Aiden Markram upfront and then came back to dismiss Quinton de Kock at a crucial juncture in the game. He then bowled a sensational 19th over, conceding just four runs and ending up with figures of 2/20 from his four overs.

Former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram rated the performances of left-arm pacers Trent Boult, Arshdeep Singh, Mitchell Starc, and Mustafizur Rahman after the T20 World Cup 2024. The fast bowling legend came up with interesting ratings and explained the reason behind that.

Wasim Akram rates Arshdeep Singh and other left-arm seamers in world cricket

Wasim Akram has rated Arshdeep Singh eight on a scale of 10. The legendary Pakistan left-arm seamer has urged the Indian youngster to concentrate on Test cricket along with the white-ball formats.

With 17 scalps, Arshdeep was the joint-highest wicket-taker in the 2024 T20 World Cup alongside Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi. The 25-year-old has represented India in 58 white-ball games but is yet to make his Test debut.

While speaking exclusively to Sportskeeda on the show ‘SK Match Ki Baat’, Akram was asked to rate Arshdeep Singh and give his thoughts on his bowling.

“Very impressive, very talented. He should be focusing on four-day cricket too because he has swing and pace. He swings the ball both ways and the new ball comes in decently. I think he has got the potential to be a regular bowler for India. I hope he has Test cricket on his mind because you will make money in T20s and you will make your name for one year in T20s,” he responded

“However, if you have to leave a legacy, you have to think about long-format cricket. People should be talking about you even 10-20 years after your retirement that no such bowler came in cricket history. These young bowlers should have that kind of mindset. No doubt, he has got the potential. I would give him eight,” Akram added.

Arshdeep has picked up 79 wickets in 52 T20Is and 10 scalps in six ODIs. He has accounted for 49 dismissals in 16 first-class games and will hope to make his Test debut soon. Arshdeep Singh came up with a magical performance for India in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024. The fast bowler ended the tournament as the leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets to his name. His sensational performance saw India win the ICC tournament after 11 years.
