Gautam Gambhir‘s comeback as a mentor in the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2024 has proved fruitful for the Bengal-based franchise. As a former skipper of the team, Gautam Gambhir has led his team to win two IPL championship titles in 2012 and 2014 under his captaincy. Currently, he’s working with two coaches – Abhishek Nayar and Chandrakant Pandit to polish the team’s performance in this season. As a result, the Shreyas Iyer-led side is comfortably resting in second place on the points tables, having won six out of nine fixtures.

Kolkata Knight Riders’ next fixture is in Mumbai, the place where they haven’t been able to win since 2012. Five-time winning champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) are currently struggling at the 9th spot in the points table with only 6 points. Nevertheless, they have a tremendous record against Kolkata at Wankhede.

The only batsman that I have feared is Rohit Sharma- Gautam Gambhir

KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir reminisced about his old days and mentioned one batter who gave him ‘sleepless nights’. Having a conversation with Star Sports, the former Kolkata skipper stated that he always had to plan multiple counters before he could face Rohit Sharma.

“The only batsman that I’ve feared is Rohit Sharma. The only batter who has given me sleepless nights… No Chris Gayle, no AB de Villiers, only Rohit. I always knew I had to have a Plan A, a Plan B and probably a Plan C as well, because if Rohit is in, I don’t think anything can control him,” Gautam Gambhir mentioned on Star Sports.

“I’ve never planned for any other batter in the IPL except Rohit Sharma. There has been times where I had seen visuals and I said, ‘Fair enough. Plan A is fine’. But for Rohit , one night before I used to think, if this doesn’t work I have to get the other plan,” he added.

“If Sunil bowls his four over, then who is going to bowl the next 16? And if I finish off Sunil early and Rohit is there, he can hit 30 off one over. Probably, he was the only batter I feared as a captain,” he further added.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) next battle with Mumbai Indians (MI) is going to be on 11th May, Saturday. After the loss of yesterday’s, match Mumbai Indians have been kicked off from the playoffs.
