ICC T20 World Cup 2024: “Everyone Was Hurt” – Nicholas Pooran Reflects On Disappointing 2022 T20 World Cup As West Indies Eye 3rd title

West Indies is also the host country for this T20 World Cup 2024 and has aimed to clinch the trophy for the third time. West Indies was knocked out in the last T20 World Cup and also failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup, grey clouds were roaming around West Indies. This year West Indies is charged up and will look to play aggressive cricket, forgetting old memories and will start fresh in this World Cup. West Indies will face Papua New Guinea in their opening encounter on June 2.

Nicholas Pooran recalls those hurting moments

West Indies who is 2 time World Cup champion and 2 time T20 World Cup champion faced a leaning phase in the 2022 T20 World Cup where they were knocked out of the tournament and later didn’t qualify for the ODI World Cup 2023, nothing was going on with them and forgot all those moments they moved on and start with a fresh. Keeper-batsmen Nicholas Pooran recalls those disappointing moments and felt like everyone was hurt and didn’t have the strength to play enough. Nicholas Pooran said:

“When we played in Australia where we didn’t qualify, everyone was hurt. I resigned [from] captaincy after that as well. Everyone was hurt. But we are no longer that group of guys. We all know what’s at stake here. We all know that we have an opportunity to redeem ourselves, make our cricket fans in the Caribbean and our cricket fans all over the world proud of us [and] happy,” Pooran said.

“This time around we are much better players as well. Most of our guys that play franchise cricket, understand what is needed to be a professional as well.”

West Indies will keep an eye on winning their third title they snubbed South Africa by 3-0 and in a warm match against Australia they thrashed them to keep their form alive. West indies will be one of the dangerous teams and will give a tough fight to rest of the teams.
