Gautam Gambhir emphasized the fact that if the player’s mind is squirming through instability, then it will surely affect their on-field performance. Therefore, Gambhir considers providing the players with the utmost comfort, security, and backup, which is the primary reason for a successful win in the game.
While having a conversation with Sportskeeda on SK match ki baat, this is what Gautam Gambhir had stated on the similarities in the captaincy between him and MS Dhoni:
“I feel insecurity is the biggest reason for a player’s failure. It’s not about ability. If you don’t have the ability you won’t reach the first-class, IPL, or international level in the first place. So it is important to have a secure dressing room. A secure dressing room is a happy dressing room and it eventually becomes a winning dressing room,”
Being the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2012 and 2014 IPL seasons, Gambhir led his team to win two IPL championship title. Now, Gautam has returned as a mentor of the KKR franchise and is getting ready to get themselves into playing the playoffs once again.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have applied a different strategy to make the most out of their gameplay, using MS Dhoni as a ‘finisher’ to the game. In this IPL 2024 season, Dhoni has been seen playing only the last 3-4 overs on average in an innings. Dhoni scored 96 off 37 balls, with an outstanding strike rate of almost 260, having a significant impact in his gameplay.

“It is a strategy of CSK (Dhoni facing just 8-10 balls) and that has given Dhoni the freedom. Different teams have different strategies and CSK has done this for the past 2-3 years. The freedom has allowed Dhoni to have an impact. When you play 20-25 balls you have the responsibility to consolidate, but when it’s just 8-10 balls you can go out there and express yourself with freedom,”
MS Dhoni passed down his CSK captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad at the start of this IPL 2024 season, after he had a successful knee surgery last year.
