Indian Spinology expert and scientist Ravichandran Ashwin sneaked his way into the Indian squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Due to Axar Patel’s injury, Ravichandran Ashwin was picked as the replacement last minute before the marque tournament.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s selection in the World Cup squad raised a few eyebrows, but the Tamil Nadu-based off-spinner had already proved his worth for the team. Let’s find out why Ashwin can prove a lethal asset for the team of India.

Immensely Experienced and a member of the glorious 2011 ODI WC

Ashwin came into the squad with lots of international experience which is great as Ashwin is the only bowler in the squad to have a 50-over World Cup under his name. He was the part of glorious 2011 World Cup squad. Apart from Ashwin, Virat Kohli is the only member of this current squad to have a World Cup medal. The experience these two add up in the squad might give Indian hopes a little push towards the trophy.

Can be used as a floater in ICC Cricket World Cup

Axar Patel was included in the squad for his all-round ability, which Ravichandran Ashwin also possesses. Ravichandran Ashwin had a good record in test cricket, he also opened for his team in domestic cricket. Skipper Rohit also has an option to play Ashwin as a floater. We had seen Ravichandran Ashwin play as a floater batter for his IPL team Rajasthan Royals. Ashwin is also preparing himself as a batter, he was seen doing batting drills straight after the end of the third ODI against Australia.

Old pair of Ravichandran Ashwin & Ravindra Jadeja can spurn a web

Ashwin-Jadeja duo was widely used by MS Dhoni to choke and attack in the middle over phase. This duo was the reason for India’s 2013 ICC Championship Trophy win. The variety and quality in Men In Blue’s spin department which consist, of left-armer Jadeja, off-spinner Ashwin and chinaman Kuldeep, place this spin attack over any other team.

“Life is a lot of surprises, thanks to selectors for keeping faith in me, This might be my last World Cup for India, So I try to enjoy every moment”, Ashwin said during the interview with Dinesh Kartik before India’s first practice game against India.
