India’s stalwart Shikhar Dhawan has been missing from the national setup for quite some time now. The selection panel have moved on from Shikhar Dhawan from the ODI setup and it seems that we have seen the last of the left-handed batter in national colors.

Shubman Gill has somewhat cemented his place in the ODI format. Shikhar Dhawan though would be disappointed that he couldn’t make it to the ODI setup as in 2022 he was leading the side and was tipped to play yet another ODI WC 2023.

Shikhar Dhawan should be extremely proud of what he has done- Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra was seen speaking on his YouTube channel and was quite concerned regarding the future of Shikhar Dhawan in cricket. Aakash Chopra pointed out that the next ODI World Cup 2027 is very far away and the left handed batter will have to perform exceedingly well in IPL 2024 to stake a claim in T20 WC 2024 squad.

“If we look towards Shikhar Dhawan’s ODI career, he doesn’t play T20Is in any case, where does he stand and is it actually almost over because the next World Cup is very far away – 2027?,” said Aakash Chopra.

“I am not writing an obituary, that he is done and won’t play again, but it is slightly difficult for sure because if the next World Cup is in 2027 and he is not picked in T20Is, it will become very difficult to play for India. Even if that happens, I would say Shikhar Dhawan should be extremely proud of what he has done,” he added.

Shikhar Dhawan is doing a classy job- Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra was quite impressed with the way Shikhar Dhawan took the ODI WC 2023 squad snub. Aakash Chopra pointed out that Shikhar Dhawan has shown immense maturity and recalled the incident when he saw the 20 year old Dhawan.

“The guy is doing a classy job. When the team was announced, a lot of people, including myself, felt he had been wronged, that his name should have been in that list, that he should have been in the scheme of things, but he is not there. When the team was announced, he could be bitter, but he wasn’t bitter,” said Aakash Chopra.

“If you see the last five to seven years, Shikhar Dhawan is not bitter. He has started viewing things with great maturity. I know the 20-year-old Shikhar, he used to be a different boy, who had a lot of aggression and used to get flared up quickly, maybe short-tempered,” he added.
