The Ajit Agarkar selection panel have shown faith in the dynamic right-handed batter Suryakumar Yadav despite having a string of low scores behind him in the ODI format. Suryakumar Yadav perhaps needs to get his eye in before going berserk as ODIs and T20Is are completely different from each other.

Suryakumar Yadav recently said that he hasn’t been able to crack the ODI code and made it clear that the likes of head coach Rahul Dravid & skipper Rohit Sharma have given him the backing to come good. It won’t be wrong to say that Suryakumar Yadav pipped the in-form Sanju Samson for the ODI WC 2023 spot.

Suryakumar Yadav is lucky to be in the ODI WC 2023 squad – Tom Moody

Tom Moody was having an interaction with ESPNcricinfo and said that Suryakumar Yadav is quite lucky to be in the ODI WC 2023 squad. Tom Moody stated that Tilak Varma could have been an option as he is a left handed batting specialist and can also bowl part-time spin.

“Suryakumar Yadav is lucky to be in that squad purely because of the case that mounts against him for someone like Tilak Varma who gives you that left-hand batting specialist in the middle order who can bowl part-time spin,” said Tom Moody.

“It gives them flexibility around the Ishan Kishan discussion. Doesn’t mean both of them can’t play in the same side but it gives the flexibility that Rohit Sharma talked about quite regularly in the press conference,” “ he added.

Questionable selection by BCCI

It would be interesting to see whether KL Rahul keeps the wickets for ODI WC 2023 or Ishan Kishan comes into the playing 11 as a proper batter as the side already has the services of Shreyas Iyer who is set to bat at No.4 position. Despite the last ODI WC played in 2019, India’s middle order looks quite uncertain as well as fragile which says a lot about the team’s dynamics.

Once again the star duo of Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma will have to do the bulk of scoring if the side wants to put big totals on the board. All eyes will be on the batting sensation Shubman Gill who will have to play his attacking brand of cricket in the powerplay overs and make the most of the starts in the high voltage ODI WC 2023.
