The New Zealand cricket team had a disappointing ODI series against England, they lost the series by 1-3 despite winning the 1st ODI match. Tim Southee‘s injury would be bothering the management. Tim Southee has been the silent assassin over the past decade as his variations & gameplan is quite top-notch.

The bowling pair of Trent Boult & Tim Southee would be eyeing glory in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Cricket fans would be hoping that the duo plays for a couple of more years, but we witnessed how Trent Boult chose franchise cricket over the nation and refused New Zealand’s central contract.

We want to give Tim Southee every chance to prove his fitness- Gary Stead

Gary Stead was having an interaction with the media and he refused to comment on the participation of Tim Southee for ODI WC 2023. Gary Stead though said that the management will give him every chance of proving his fitness and said that there is an unknown being of a bone fracture.

“Until then, we can’t make a call around the World Cup. We’ll just need to understand the timeframes and what that looks like and once we have that information, we will then be able to move forward and make a decision,” said Gary Stead.

“We’ll want to give Tim every chance of proving his fitness,” said Stead. “There will be an element of the unknown being that it’s a bone fracture, and at some stage, he will have to start catching balls and bowling again. “The healing process in the next 10 to 12 days will be pretty important for him as well,” he added.

Huge blow for New Zealand

Tim Southee not only is a big match player but the pacer is someone who can provide breakthroughs at crucial junctions of the match. Tim Southee can be often seen having a word with the bowlers and guiding them as his absence may hurt New Zealand badly.

With less than 20 days left for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, New Zealand’s management will have to make a call as their opening encounter is against England on 5th October against England. New Zealand would be aware of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 final heart breaking defeat as the Black Caps would be roaring to make a mark.
