Renowned cricket expert Michael Vaughan feels that the England cricket team can retain the ODI WC 2023 against all odds despite the conditions being tricky for the defending champions. Michael Vaughan believes that England has all the skills to outclass the opposition team.

ECB has taken a huge gamble by dropping Jason Roy for the marquee ODI WC 2023 and in his place they have included the left-handed batter Dawid Malan who can play a significant knock for the team and has the knack of playing the waiting game as well which is priceless for the team.

England are very tough mentally- Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan wrote in his column for the Telegraph. Michael Vaughan pointed out that England will have to play out of their skin if they want to retain the ODI WC 2023. Michael Vaughan stated that the Jos Buttler-led side is very tough mentally. Michael Vaughan stated that the veteran batter Joe Root will have a massive role in Indian pitches which would be testing.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for this group. They will be ranked alongside the great teams of the past if they can do the job over the next eight weeks. They can do it because England are very tough mentally,”

“Whether they have the best skill sets for winning in India is going to be the challenge. Joe Root has not been in great form but he is a massive key on those pitches because he plays spin so well. He does not need to play too aggressively, there are others who can do that,” he added.

Great chance for England

Head coach Matt Mott and skipper Jos Buttler will have to be smart with their selection and perhaps will have to apply horses for courses technique if they want to win championship. England fans would be banking on the spin duo of Moeen Ali & Adil Rashid, the spinners can easily spurn a web as they bowl quite wicket to wicket.

All eyes will be on the flamboyant all-rounder Ben Stokes who reportedly has a niggle and is unlikely to play the opening match against New Zealand. Stokes is a complete cricketer which every player dreams to have as his 6-7 overs can prove to be decisive against a sturdy opposition team.
