Gautam Gambhir talks about India’s batting position. Team India is looking forward to the Asia Cup before the ICC World Cup 2023. Indian main players like Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna are coming back into the ODI after injury. Mostly this squad will be the World Cup too so everyone is looking forward to this Asia Cup. Gautam Gambhir pointed out that there is quite an uncertainty in India’s batting line up.

Sri Lanka won all games in World Cup qualifiers which gave confidence to them. Bangladesh lost the ODI series against Afghanistan. But all looking forward to the Asia Cup.

Former Indian Opener Gautam Gambhir was having an interaction with Star Sports. Gautam Gambhir takes on the Suryakumar Yadav selection when he was selected not based on his performance. He was an inconsistent performer in ODI but he was selected because of his impact on the game.  Also, the Australia series gives you a clear picture of India’s starting XI for the ICC World Cup 2023. So looking forward to India’s performance in the Asia Cup and Australia Series.

“One thing is clear; there is no front-runner for a position when you are trying to win the World Cup. Form and impact are important. The players who are in form need to be picked, rather than those who are not,” said Gautam Gambhir.

“Let it be Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, or anybody. If Tilak Varma is in better form than someone if Suryakumar Yadav is in better form than Shreyas Iyer or KL Rahul or Ishan Kishan, you need to start that player,” he stated.

“Because the World Cup comes once in four years, you don’t go and see who is a front-runner or not, Who is in the best form after the Asia Cup and the Australia series, just as Rohit Sharma had said, there is no guarantee for anybody’s position. It’s great to have Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul back from injury, but they will need to perform if they want to get in the starting lineup of the squad,” he added.

Also, He said Shreyas Iyer & KL Rahul coming back from injury is a good sign for India. But again they should perform and regain their spot in India. Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul’s stats in the Number 4 and 5 position were impressive but a concern is both coming back to injury. Even KL Rahul is not playing the first 2-3 games due to niggle. Both Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul before the ICC World Cup 2023 are important series.

India had just a few games before the ICC World Cup 2023 so can’t experiment so much. Tilak Varma is a promising youngster. If India wants to Tilak Varma be in the middle order for the ICC World Cup 2023, they should try him against the Nepal game. That is a great opportunity to try otherwise we can’t see other Opportunities.
