There has been a debate going on around the inclusion of Suryakumar Yadav in the ODI WC 2023 squad. Suryakumar Yadav doesn’t have encouraging numbers in the ODI format, we all witnessed how the batter failed in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia in March 2023.

Suryakumar Yadav can be used as a finisher rather than a middle-order batter. The batter needs to give himself some sort of time before going berserk as there is a massive difference between the T20I format and the traditional ODI format which tests character and endurance.

There was a case of Tilak Verma versus Suryakumar Yadav- Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra was seen speaking on his You Tube channel and said that Suryakumar Yadav is very close to his heart and pointed out that everyone likes Suryakumar Yadav a lot. Aakash Chopra stated that there was a case of Tilak Verma versus Suryakumar Yadav for ODI WC 2023 spot.

“There was a case of Tilak Varma versus Suryakumar Yadav. We all like Surya Bhau a lot and he is very close to my heart but I believe that whoever had been selected will sit out,” said Aakash Chopra.

Suryakumar Yadav cannot provide you a new combination- Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra took a unique stance and said that Suryakumar Yadav will get a game when someone is injured or there is a loss of form. Aakash Chopra pointed out that the side already has the services of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan and stated that Tilak Verma could have been a good option for ODI WC 2023

“Suryakumar Yadav will get a chance to play either because of an injury or loss of form, or if you want to try a new combination. You won’t be able to try a new combination because already one of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan will be sitting outside. Suryakumar Yadav cannot provide you a new combination,” he stated.

“Tilak Varma could have done that. If the opposing team have a lot of left-handers, you could have kept an off-spinner. You would have got a left-hander in the middle order, if you are not playing Ishan, who would have bowled off-spin. However, you didn’t give yourself that option,” he added.
