Sanju Samson, the spectacular right handed batter would be wondering what more he needs to do to find a place in India’s squad. Sanju Samson hasn’t been given a long rope as compared to KL Rahul and even the swashbuckling batter Suryakumar Yadav.
We should not forget that Sanju Samson has been playing IPL & domestic cricket since the last 10 years and he is no longer a junior player. All eyes will be on Suryakumar Yadav who had a terrible Asia Cup 2023 and once again he looked in two minds whether to attack or defend which hurt the team.
I urge Sanju Samson to continue putting in the hard yards- Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh was seen speaking on his You Tube channel. Harbhajan Singh pointed out that it’s quite tough to accept the fact that Sanju Samson is ignored for Australia series & WC 2023 despite averaging 55 in the ODI format. Harbhajan Singh pointed out that India can’t field 3 wicket-keeper batters in the playing 11.
“Sanju Samson’s exclusion has raised a lot of debates. If you average 55 in ODIs and still don’t be a part of the squad then definitely that’s strange. But I think Sanju wasn’t selected because India already had two wicketkeepers KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan. Both are also a part of the World Cup squad,”
“Sanju will need to wait for his chance. I know it is difficult to accept sometimes and one can get disheartened. But age is on his side and I urge him to continue putting in the hard yards and wait for his time,”
“If I have to choose between KL Rahul and Sanju Samson, I would definitely select Rahul because of the stability he provides at No.4, No.5. Samson is also a good player and can hit sixes at will, but the situation now is such that you can’t have three wicketkeeper-batters in a team. It will be difficult to field all of them in the XI,” he added.
