ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Mohammad Kaif Furious On Afghanistan’s Fielders Amidst Poor Fielding & Catching

Mohammad Kaif wasn’t quite impressed with the way Afghanistan’s fielders fared against New Zealand. Mohammad Kaif pointed out that due to such poor fielding, it cost the match for the Afghanistan cricket team. Kaif termed the fielding quite below par which could hurt them later in the tournament.

Afghanistan’s decision to bowl first against the mighty Black Caps was quite controversial as well. The Afghanistan batters could have made the difference by posting a 1st innings target in excess of 260 as later the cracks would have widened up and the equation could have been different while defending the target.

New Zealand have now won 4 matches out of 4 and now are one step closer of making it to the Semi-Finals of the marquee ODI WC 2023. We should not forget that New Zealand were without Kane Williamson who played a solitary match and is yet to recover from the finger injury.

You lost the match because of the dropped catches- Mohammad Kaif

Mohammad Kaif was having an interaction with Star Sports. Mohammad Kaif pointed out that Afghanistan’s fielding was below par which eventually cost them the match and termed that such catches which were dropped would be taken by Under-16 and Under-19 matches. Mohammad Kaif stated that if catches were taken then the target would have been within 200.

“A good fielder waits for the ball to be hit to him and to be tested on the ground. Here, they were tested a lot. They were all easy catches. I won’t be able to defend them even if I want to,” said Mohammad Kaif.

“Under-16 and under-19 kids will hold such catches. None of them were difficult catches. You lost the match because of the dropped catches. This team would have gotten all out within 200 if they had held their catches,” he added.
