ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will be a toilsome task for both captain Rohit  Sharma and Selection committee. Indian men’s cricket team’s journey in ICC tournaments for the past 12 years has been a rollercoaster of emotions, near misses and determined efforts, and unfulfilled dreams. ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is expected to be a humdinger one as all the 10 teams are evenly matched.

India has always been a pool of some exceptional talents in the game, but is now under the radar of fans and critics. But still, India’s Middle Order Woes Continue their wait for the world cup trophy. ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is going to be played entirely in India as this is the first instance that the ODI WC is going to be staged in one country only. ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is expected to reignite ODI cricket which is somewhat losing its importance.

Where we started and where we are ?

The new decade of 21st century began with a high note as the captain cool assembled all the pieces of the batting line up with a harmonious blend of experience and young blood guided the to a world cup triumph after 28 years. This success is followed by ICC 2013 champions trophy where India clinched the trophy. But after the heroics of 2011 and 2013,  Men in Blue experience some near misses that accentuated their struggle to claim another ICC trophy.

Dissection of the problem

The Indian Cricket team has grappled with the finding the right team composition and strategy that caters to different conditions and dynamics of the game. Too much dependency on senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma also led down the team on many occasions.  Let us take a dive into India’s struggle in finding the perfect team combination ahead of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

India’s world cup disappointment started with the selection of the squad that includes inexperienced bowling line-up and questioned selection of Stuart Binny in place of Yuvraj Singh. The inexperienced bowling attack succumb against host kangaroos as they belted India away from the marquee tournament.

Before the start of ICC world cup 2019, Ambati Rayudu was the obvious choice for no. 4 batter, but things took turn to south as selection committee included  Tamil Nadu’s allrounder Vijay Shankar instead of Ambati Rayudu. India again failed to qualify for the finals.

ICC World cup 2023 and India’s challenges and Strategy

The evolving nature of the game demands strategic flexibility and continuous introspection 0f the team. Indian team’s thinking tank has grappled with finding the right team composition and strategy that caters different formats and conditions. The selectors are now in immense pressure of fans, to choose the right combination ahead of the upcoming marque tournament on their home soil.

Team is still struggling to choose its right no. 4 batter, KKR’s captain Shreyas Iyer will be team’s first choice number four batter. But the chair race for the slot is still on with likes of  KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Tilak Verma are claiming their chances for the spot for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

While ICC trophies have remained elusive, the team’s continued efforts and the nation’s unwavering support serve as a reminder that success in cricket is as much about the journey as it is about the destination. As the Men in blue continues to strive for excellence, cricket enthusiasts  eagerly anticipate the day when the Indian cricket team reclaims its spot on the ICC podium.
