The sly spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was shockingly dropped from the ODI WC 2023 squad. It is believed that Axar Patel pipped Yuzvendra Chahal on the grounds of batting as Axar is a handy batter lower down the order and at the same time can also be used as a floater for the team.

Axar Patel’s inclusion was no surprise as the spinner has got similar traits to Ravindra Jadeja but not having a right arm spinner can be risky in the big tournament. The opposition teams can take down the likes of Kuldeep, Jadeja & Axar which can be a concern for the duo of head coach Rahul Dravid & skipper Rohit Sharma.

Yuzvendra Chahal can still win another two World Cups- S Sreesanth

S Sreesanth was having an interaction with Sportskeeda and said that the selection panel’s decision to leave out Yuzvendra Chahal can backfire in the ODI WC 2023. S Sreesanth stated that Yuzvendra Chahal should not lose hope and said that the spinner is in good form and can win multiple ICC tournaments for India.

“India will miss Chahal because the conditions are such. Chahal’s thinking should be that – yes, I deserve to be in the XI, but I am confident I will get better opportunities. I saw one of his wickets in county. It was similar to how Shane Warne had bowled Mike Gatting – off stump bowled on a front foot defense. It was a dream-come-true for a leg-spinner,” said S Sreesanth.

“Yuzvendra Chahal is in good form. All I would tell him is, keep working hard, keep believing. He is still young; he can still win another two World Cups,” he added.

Crucial World Cup for Rohit Sharma

It is believed that the star duo of Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma would bid adieu to ODI format after the conclusion of the upcoming marquee tournament. Virat Kohli was a part of the the glorious 2011 ODI WC triumph and he knows that winning won’t be easy as this time all the teams are evenly matched.

Skipper Rohit Sharma on the other hand would be aware of the fact that his captaincy is under the scanner. Rohit used attacking tactics in the Sri Lankan encounter in the Super 4 stage but he will have to be smart and manage the workload of fast bowlers in the ODI WC 2023 as we all have seen how much injury prone Jasprit Bumrah is. Rohit Sharma would be keen to make a statement that his 600 odd runs in 2019 WC edition were not a fluke.
