The Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel ignored the veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for ODI WC 2023. There were high chances that Ravichandran Ashwin would be named in the squad as earlier skipper Rohit Sharma had hinted that Ashwin may come into the team.

The selection panel astoundingly left out the sly leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. India have named a dangerous spin contingent in the form of Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja & Axar Patel but Chahal could have provided variety to the attack in the ODI WC 2023.

I will be ready for team India  if they require my service even tomorrow- Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin was seen speaking on his YouTube channel and made an interesting remark and said that he still wants to represent India in the white ball format. Ravichandran Ashwin pointed out that he has had his fair share of failures and successes in his career.

“I have been playing for the last 14-15 years for Team India. I have had my great moments. I have had my fair share of failures too. I was talking to Abhinav Bindra that day. He said, ‘I have failed more than I succeeded,” said Ravichandran Ashwin.

“Even I have had my fair share of failures and successes. But I have tattooed Indian cricket close to my heart. If they require my service even tomorrow, I will be ready and will give my 100 percent,” he added.

Axar Patel may not give you 10 overs every day- Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin took a unique stance and said that the flamboyant all-rounder Axar Patel should be given some space. Ravichandran Ashwin pointed out that Axar is someone who can bowl 5-6 overs and said that he shouldn’t be considered as a premier spinner for the marquee tournament.

“At this point of time, we are expecting a lot from Axar Patel. I feel like we should give some space. If we don’t have Axar, who is doing that role? Shardul. What are you expecting from him? 5-6 or sometimes 8 overs and pick 2-3 wickets,” said Ravichandran Ashwin.

“We should expect the same from Axar, As a bowler, we should understand what he is going through. Will Axar give you 10 overs every day? Maybe not. When the volume of overs comes down, he might end up pitching where he didn’t intend it to. If he keeps bowling more overs and once he gets his confidence, he will be set,” he added.
