Former Indian batter Akash Chopra is not sure about Glenn Maxwell as a frontline bowler in the Australian playing eleven. He feels Glenn Maxwell is a good bowler, but can he give a proper 10 overs of spin? The Australian team is looking at Glenn Maxwell as their second spinner going into the mega event.
Australia announced their squad for the World Cup 2023; they replaced star batter Marnus Labuschagne with injured all-rounder Ashton Agar in the squad. This resulted in them only remaining with one frontline spinner in the form of leg spinner Adam Zampa.
Glenn Maxwell can play the role of 6th bowler but expecting him to bowl 10 overs can back fire in crunch matches in the tournament. We should not forget that Australia have the services of Steve Smith & Marnus Labuschagne as well as the duo can also roll their arm.

Aakash Chopra was seen speaking on his You Tube channel. Aakash Chopra stated that making Glenn Maxwell bowl 10 overs can backfire as the spinner doesn’t have enough match practice behind him. Aakash Chopra pointed out that the spinner can’t be taken lightly as he is a proper bowler.
“In Indian conditions, you need spinners to come and bowl, but there are hardly any spinners in the team. They have Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell, who picked up four wickets recently, dismissing Rohit and Kohli as big batters. He was very good, but is he your reliable 10-over bowler? When asked about it, George Bailey said Maxwell can’t be taken lightly; he is a proper bowler,” said Aakash Chopra.
“Bailey also pointed out that Australia does not bowl spin for more than 20 overs most of the time. Looking at the venues where they will be playing their matches, they are not playing on surfaces where the ball is going to turn a lot,” he stated.
“Australia is really an interesting team. No other team has won more World Cups than this team. They know how to win big matches, how to play well, and how to turn it on in the big stages. This has been the team’s strength over the years, but there are some issues in the squad.” he added.
