ICC Champions Trophy 2025: “Rohit Sharma Has Got No Reason To Retire”- AB De Villiers Hails Star Batter & Expects Him To Prolong His Career

Rohit Sharma achieved a double white ball feat by winning ICC T20 WC 2024 & ICC CT 2025. Rohit Sharma has silenced all the critics with his performance with bat & his leadership skills were quite commendable. Rohit Sharma along with Virat Kohli showed to the world cricket that they are still one of the best batters in world as their contributions in knock-out matches were the key for the triumph.

Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy: A Legacy in the Making

Under Rohit’s leadership, India dominated the Champions Trophy, with the skipper playing a pivotal role in the final. His aggressive 76-run knockoff 83 balls set the stage for India’s triumph. While he may not have piled up massive individual scores throughout the tournament, his attacking starts in the powerplay provided the much-needed momentum.

Following the victory, Rohit Sharma expressed his determination to continue leading the side till the 2027 ODI World Cup. Statistically, his win percentage of nearly 74% is the highest among past captains, reinforcing his stature as one of the most outstanding ODI leaders. Dismissing retirement rumors, Rohit asserted that he has no plans to step away from the game.

Rohit Sharma has transformed his game- AB de Villiers

Backing Rohit’s approach, AB de Villiers spoke on his YouTube channel & emphasized how the Indian skipper has reinvented his batting strategy. AB de Villiers pointed out that Rohit Sharma has been ruthless with the bat in hand as his strike-rate has taken a giant leap.

“Why would he retire? With that kind of record, not only as captain but also as a batter. That 76 in the final, giving India a fantastic start, laying the foundation for success, and leading from the front when the pressure was at its peak,” AB de Villiers said.

“Rohit Sharma has got no reason to retire. No reason to take any criticism whatsoever. His record speaks for itself. He has transformed his game. If we look at his powerplay strike rate, it used to be lower, but since 2022, it has risen to 115. That’s the difference between good and great,” he added.

What This Means for Indian Cricket

With Rohit Sharma leading the charge, Team India continues to be a formidable force in international cricket. His ability to adapt and innovate makes him a crucial asset heading into the next World Cup cycle. If he maintains his current form and leadership, he could go down as one of the best ODI captains in history.

Whether Rohit Sharma will continue his Test cricket journey or be included in India’s tour of England remains uncertain. His performance saw a notable dip during the 2024-25 home season and the Australia tour, where he eventually stepped aside for the final Test match. However, despite this decision, the Indian skipper has made it clear that he has no plans to retire from the game.
