ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Records Broken In A Jaw Dropping Tournament

Highest Average

KL Rahul broke the record of Highest Batting average in a single season of CT. He scored 140 runs in 4 innings and got out only once ( vs NZ in league match ) with an astonishing average of 140 beating the previous best of 129 by Virat Kohli in the previous edition (2017).

The wicket-keeper didn’t score any half century, but made sure there is no any collapse and the opponent doesn’t reach our tail. KL coming at 6 makes our batting order deeper and provides stability at the end. He also carried the burden of the CWC 2023 Final in his heart and finally he got some relief from it after hitting the winning shot in the semi final and standing till the end in the finals. He also become the third fastest to Indian to reach 3000 ODI runs ( 78 innings )

Highest individual score

Ben Duckett become the first batsmen to cross the 150 mark in the CT history when he scored 165 against Australia in the league stage which was later broken by Ibrahim Zadran against his team after few days.

Zadran scored 177 runs against England which is now the highest score in CT history and it’s also

  • Highest score by an Afghan batsman in Odis.
  • Highest score by an Asian batter against England.
  • Highest score by any batsman against England in an ICC ODI Tournament.

Rohit Sharma & Centuries

Rohit Sharma has participated in 6 ICC ODI Tournaments for India ( 2013 CT, 2015 WC, 2017 CT, 2019 WC, 2023 WC and 2025 CT. ) In these 6 tournaments, only 2 times he has failed to score a century and India won both. ( 2013 CT  and 2025 CT ).

Team efforts and clutch moments matter than glamorous centuries.

Final curse vs NZ came to an end

Before this CT final, NZ had an 100% winning record against Ind in ICC Finals ( 2000 CT & 2021 WTC ) and those two are the only ICC titles won by them in the cricket history. Ind finally broke that streak and won an ICC Final against NZ.

Asian Teams in ICC Tournaments

This is the first that any ICC Tournament has been won by asian teams for 3 consecutive editions. ( Ind- 2013 CT, Pak – 2017 CT, Ind – 2025 CT ).

This incident has happened in World cups for two consecutive editions.

ODI world cup – Pak – 1992, SL – 1996.

T20 world cup – Ind – 2007, Pak – 2009

Team which got defeated in last edition’s final and coming back to win the next edition is a rare thing we would see in cricket history.

ODI WC – Australia ( Runners-up – 1996, Champions – 1999 )

T20 WC – Pak ( Runners-up – 2007, Champions – 2009 ), SL ( Runners up – 2012, Champions – 2014 )

CT – India ( Runners-up – 2017, Champions – 2025 )

5 Wicket Hauls

Whenever an Indian takes a 5 wkt haul in the CT, we went on to win the trophy. Jadeja( 2013 CT ) and Mohammed Shami, Varun Chakravarthy ( 2025 CT ).

Shami and Varun took their fifers in their Champions trophy debut. Shami is the first Indian to do so followed by Varun.

Shami who had a dream world cup 2023 suffered a long term injury after that. In his comeback match for India he replied with a fifer in his first appearance in the CT, answering all his critics and filling the shoes of Bumrah in the team.

Varun had a disaster opening to his ICC Tournament journey in the same ground 4 years ago when he wicketless against Pakistan in T20 world cup 2021. He was sidelined from the national side and critics thought his international career was finished. He went back and worked hard and got his redemption in international cricket at the same place in an ICC tournament hosted by Pakistan.

Fastest 100

Josh Inglis scored a hundred in 77 balls equaled the fastest century of CT record along with Virender Sehwag ( 2002 ). Later David Miller broke this record in the semis by scoring a 62 ball ton against NZ.
