Former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar stated that KL Rahul is excelling his skills when it comes to making a DRS call. Manjrekar made a significant address when he said that Rahul is on par with the legendary MS Dhoni in this particular area of captaincy.

At Boland Park in Paarl, on Thursday, KL Rahul led team India, defeated South Africa by 78 runs to seal the three-match series 2-1. In spite of his strong batting performance, Rahul’s leadership of a young Indian team was especially noteworthy.

As a captain KL Rahul took some smart DRS calls, which went India’s side during this ODI series against South Africa. KL Rahul also caught the eyeballs of fans and several experts with his wicket-keeping skills and some good DRS calls, which also went in team India’s favor in the recently completed ODI World Cup 2023.

“KL Rahul’s instinct is equal to MS Dhoni”- Sanjay Manjrekar

Sanjay Manjrekar praised the keeper-batter greatly in an interview with ESPNcricinfo, discussing his captaincy. He said that KL Rahul looked relaxed and calm while taking the charge of Team India, as he already had a lot of experience with captaincy in the IPL, a test match in South Africa, and a few ODI matches as well.

“These days, when you see KL Rahul on the ground, he looks very relaxed and in a good mind space. He captained as expected. He looks comfortable in the leadership role. He has led a lot in the IPL, in a Test match in South Africa and in one-day matches as well. You can expect KL Rahul not to make any big mistake. He is an expert in DRS. His instinct is equal to MS Dhoni,” Sanjay Manjrekar elaborated.

In the opening game of the ODI series in Johannesburg, which the Men in Blue won by eight wickets, Rahul was not required to bat. He scored 56 off 64 in a losing cause in the second ODI at Gqeberha, and he then scored 21 off 35 in the series decider match in Paarl.

“Indian cricket appears to be working on autopilot”-Sanjay Manjrekar

Even though they dominated the ODI World Cup, India was unable to win it at home. However, despite having many of its seniors rested, Team India have performed admirably in bilateral series. India won a T20I series at home against Australia under Suryakumar Yadav‘s leadership prior to KL Rahul.

Sanjay Manjrekar gave the players credit for the accomplishment. He said that the captaincy is good, but it’s the players who are really contributing to Team India’s success.

“It seems like Indian cricket is running on autopilot. Suryakumar Yadav won as captain recently, KL Rahul now. Rohit Sharma has also won a lot of games for India. A lot of credit for the success must go to the players. Captaincy is good, but not game-changing. It’s the players who are doing really well,” he added.

Now, Team India’s next challenge will be 2 match test series in South Africa which will begin with a Boxing Day test match at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
