Wriddhiman Saha‘s vast experience could have made him an ideal choice for the WTC 2021-23 Final but the selection panel opted for Ishan Kishan. Wriddhiman Saha‘s ability to handle high-pressure situations combined with his stump-holding skills could have made him a valuable addition to the team.

As the much-anticipated World Test Championship (WTC) final draws near which is on 7th June at The Oval, the Indian cricket team is faced with an important decision regarding the batting roster. The team is currently struggling with injury concerns for regular players, which poses a dilemma for coaches.

KS Bharat or Ishan Kishan?

One player being considered for the role is KS Bharat, a versatile batter who also has the coveted punching power. However, India’s former spinner Harbhajan Singh was having an interaction with Star Sports and backed the inclusion of Wriddhiman Saha, citing the valuable experience the wicketkeeper-batter has.

“Wriddhiman Saha’s ability to handle pressure situations and deliver consistent performances is invaluable in a tournament like the World Test Championship,” said Harbhajan Singh

Considering Harbhajan’s opinion and his Saha references, it is clear that the choice between KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan is difficult. Bharat’s punching power and Kishan’s explosive shot make them a strong choice, but Saha’s experience and all-around ability give him an advantage in this important match.

Coaches should carefully weigh the strengths and weaknesses of each player’s contribution before making a final decision. Ultimately, the choice will be determined by the team’s strategy and the specific circumstances expected in his WTC Final

“Saha’s ability to handle pressure situations and deliver consistent performances is invaluable in a tournament like the World Test Championship.” – he added.

Quiz of the counter

India’s favorite batting striker in the Test format, Rishabh Pant, was ruled out due to injury in a road accident late last year. In Pant’s absence, KS Bharat had a chance to show off his skills in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 but he failed to make a significant impact. However, Bharat was initially considered for the WTC finals, with KL Rahul being the preferred pick.

However, things took a turn for the worse when Rahul suffered a hamstring injury during the Indian Premier League (IPL) and he was subsequently eliminated from the WTC Finals. In such a situation, Ishan Kishan has been called in as a backup wicket-keeper, although he has yet to make his test debut.

Wriddhiman Saha an asset

Wriddhiman Saha, a veteran red-ball cricketer, has not joined the national team since last February. He was eliminated in the Test series against Sri Lanka, and made the way for the swashbuckling batter Rishabh Pant, who cemented his place in the team.

However, Saha has consistently impressed in domestic cricket over the past few seasons. The veteran smash keeper showed his quality at IPL 2023, representing the Gujarat Titans. In 17 matches, Saha has scored 371 runs, including a top score of 81. This performance, coupled with his vast experience and technical prowess, makes Saha a contender. bright for the important WTC Finals.

Conundrum for Management

As the WTC final draws near, the Indian cricket team has to make an important decision regarding hitter placement. While KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan are running for office, Harbhajan Singh believes Wriddhiman Saha’s experience and proficiency in red-ball cricket makes him a strong candidate for the role.

As fans eagerly await the final lineup announcement, the selectors will carefully consider various factors and make the best decisions to strengthen their chances of winning the World Test Championship after missing out last time against New Zealand in WTC 2019-21.
