Gujarat Titans (GT) host Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 35 of the ongoing IPL 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, on Saturday, April 19. Their strategies and team composition may be a stark contrast to each other, but the one thing common to Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals so far this season has been consistency. Nearing the halfway mark of the tournament, DC have five wins while GT have four with both sides having played six games apiece. This fixture, therefore, will officially get both teams to their halfway point in the season.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 keeps the excitement rolling with another blockbuster clash as Gujarat Titans (GT) face off against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 35 at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. GT, led by Shubman Gill, have shown impressive form this season with four wins out of six matches. Meanwhile, DC are coming into this match high on confidence after a thrilling Super Over victory against Rajasthan Royals.
GT vs DC : Previous Performances
There has been a slight old-school method to GT’s madness. They are a side that’s top-heavy and have their bowling as their stronger suit. However, their wins have been evenly bunched, with two each batting first and second. They had strung four wins on the trot before being undone by LSG in Lucknow. Nevertheless, Shubman Gill’s side looks a well-rounded outfit with their bowling potency making them a formidable opposition.
GT’s batting does depend a lot on Shubman Gill although the skipper hasn’t been at his damaging best. The form of Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler, though, has covered up for their captain’s lack of runs. The bowling has delivered on a more collective basis with Prasidh Krishna and Mohammad Siraj doing an efficient job. Rashid Khan continues to blow hot and cold but Sai Kishore has stepped up immensely although the latter did get a battering from Nicholas Pooran in the last game.
Notably, Gujarat lost their first game of the season before embarking on a four-match winning streak. However, Lucknow Super Giants halted their joyous progress by beating the Shubman Gill-led side at home by six wickets earlier this week. GT posted 180/6 in their 20 overs, but Lucknow chased it down with six wickets in hand and three balls to spare. The 2022 champions will be keen to get back to winning ways on Saturday. A win will help them move to the top of the table.
The Capitals are fresh off a morale-boosting Super Over win against Rajasthan Royals at home. Axar Patel’s men have found ways to win games out of nowhere and that makes them a dangerous side. Not that DC don’t have firepower in their squad.
Even with Faf du Plessis missing due to injury and Jake Fraser-McGurk misfiring, the batting has responded due to their middle order. KL Rahul has been the standout with able support from the others, notably Tristan Stubbs. They also have the miracle man Ashutosh Sharma who created magic in their tournament opener against LSG.
Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, have performed like a well-oiled machine under new captain Axar Patel. They have registered five wins and one defeat from their first six matches and currently sit at the top of the points table. After four back-to-back wins to start the campaign, Delhi suffered a gut-wrenching 12-run defeat from a winning position against the Mumbai Indians. However, they bounced back with a Super Over win against the Rajasthan Royals in their most recent fixture and will be high on confidence.
Like their opponents, DC also have a potent bowling attack that relies a bit more on their world class spin trio. Axar is yet to click full time as a bowler but his left-arm spin has steadily found rhythm, given that he was battling with a finger injury. Kuldeep Yadav continues to lead the pack and Vipraj Nigam has shown immense promise as well.
They should enjoy the large dimensions of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad but a lot of that will also depend on the type of pitch that will be given for this fixture. Both teams are in good form with plenty of quality in their ranks, and it sets up for an evenly fought contest.

GT vs DC : Pitch and Weather Report
Three games have been played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in IPL 2025, all of which were won by teams batting first. The average first-innings score has been around 219. Fans can expect another high-scoring encounter on Saturday. Winning the toss and batting first could be a fruitful ploy, as fielding under the heat in the first innings of the afternoon fixture—and then chasing a massive total—won’t be easy.
Pitches have generally been good for batting. The two red-soil surfaces at this venue saw teams batting posting scores well in excess of 200. Meanwhile, the black soil surface also saw a moderately good total of 196. The bowlers have also had a say, especially on the black soil track. The red-soil pitch offers good pace and bounce. The black-soil pitch is slow and helps spinners. It needs to be seen what GT choose. It’s a day game, and the forecast is of “excessive heat”, with the temperature during the match expected to be around 38°C.
GT vs DC : Big Picture : GT defy expectations yet again
Gujarat Titans (GT) are the prime example of why first impressions could be misleading. Before IPL 2022, their inaugural season, no one gave them a chance. GT not only went on to win the title but also came within one ball of defending it the following year.
They had a miserable 2024 but the original script seems to be repeating in IPL 2025. Before the start of the season, their top three looked all too similar, almost playing the role of anchors, while their middle order was virtually non-existent. But GT have again defied expectations and come out as one of the stronger teams in the tournament.
Shubman Gill, B Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler have ensured their middle order doesn’t get exposed too soon. At the same time, all three have improved their strike rates from last season. GT’s stronger suit, again, is their bowling, led by Mohammed Siraj in the powerplay, and Prasidh Krishna in the middle overs, while R Sai Kishore has made up for Rashid Khan’s below-par returns.
On Saturday afternoon, though, they are up against a well-rounded Delhi Capitals (DC) – a team that has a 2-0 record against them in Ahmedabad. One of those games was played on a red-soil pitch, the other on a black-soil one. Unlike many other teams, GT seem to have a say in the pitch preparation at home. Given both teams have strong pace and spin attacks, it would be interesting to see what type of pitch GT dish out.
With five wins from six games, DC are currently at the top of the points table. A win on Saturday will mean they remain in pole position. If GT win, they will be guaranteed the top spot, too.
GT vs DC : In the spotlight: Sherfane Rutherford and Tristan Stubbs
His struggle against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) notwithstanding, Sherfane Rutherford has provided plenty of solidity to GT’s middle order. Building on the platform set by the top three, he has scored 158 runs in six innings at an average of 39.50 and a strike rate of 166.31. This is way better than his overall T20 numbers: average 23.48, strike rate 36.06. With Phillips out of the tournament, Rutherford’s form becomes even more important for GT.
Tristan Stubbs is showing why he was one of the four players retained by DC ahead of the mega auction. With 152 runs in six innings, he is their third-highest run-getter this season. But Stubbs’ genius lies in the details. He has a strike rate of 211.53 in the death overs, while his overall dot-ball percentage of 17.20 is the best in the league (min. 50 balls faced).
