Given that the Indian team’s attention will be on the current T20 World Cup 2024, a former Indian cricket player offered his opinion on Gautam Gambhir’s likelihood of unseating Rahul Dravid as the team’s head coach. After making a spectacular comeback to the Kolkata Knight Riders and leading the team to the title, Gautam Gambhir’s reputation is currently rising.

He is the only IPL winner in both his roles as a player and a coach. The 2024 T20 World Cup will take place in June, marking the end of Dravid’s term. It has been verified that the coaching role would be filled for a period exceeding three years, specifically from June 2024 to December 2027. Despite making a Google form available to everyone, the BCCI has approached Gautam Gambhir on its own to replace Dravid.

The Indian Premier League has been instrumental in Gautam Gambhir’s rise to prominence as the front-runner for the Head Coach position with Team India. Surprisingly enough, save for the IPL, the cricketer from Delhi has never coached at any level, either domestically or internationally.

Gautam Gambhir Is A Good Strategist- WV Raman

In an interview with the Press Trust of India (PTI), WV Raman expressed his opinion that Gambhir possesses the necessary qualifications to assume the role of head coach for the Indian squad. He said :

“He will definitely be somebody who knows what to do. What he will deliver and not is something I cannot predict since I don’t have a crystal ball in my hand,” he commented. “But, as far as his acumen is concerned, he is good. He has also been a good captain in the IPL, and he is a good strategist,” he added.

Raman suggested that rather than all the positive traits, it all comes down to how quickly the side can get settled under his coaching and whether the players are in agreement with his methods.

“But again, it’s all about things coming together when you are coaching a side and how quickly everybody (coaches) settles down with the boys and the boys with his ways of doing things. So, that’s where the key lies, generally,” he concluded.

The BCCI has not yet announced who will succeed the Indian great, therefore the T20 World Cup 2024 will be Dravid’s final tournament. The team will get ready once more for the T20 World Cup, where they will play their debut match at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York against Ireland.

In their most recent warm-up match against Bangladesh, India checked off a number of boxes as they crushed their neighbors to win by 60 runs in New York. Some of the best performers were Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya, and Rishabh Pant; they will probably start in the starting eleven for the first match.
