With Nicholas Pooran opting out, Andre Russell and Jason Holder have been called for the T20I series against England. Roston Chase and Brandon King will miss the Ireland leg of the tour.
Andre Russell back against England T20I series
The West Indies are set to play 3 T20Is following the ODI series against England. Andre Russell and Jason Holder have been added to the T20I squad. Nicholas Pooran asked for a rest following his involvement in the IPL. Jason Holder last played T20Is for West Indies in February 2024, He was not considered in this format after he missed last year’s T20 World Cup due to an Injury.
Russell’s last appearance in the T20Is came against the same England in 2024. He suffered an ankle injury in that series and never made a comeback in International T20s after that. Both all-rounders will add value to the team as they come with a lot of experience in the format.
This will be the first T20I series for West Indies under their new Captain, Shai Hope. Rovman Powell stepped back as a captain after a 3-0 defeat against Bangladesh at home. He will continue in the squad as a player.
Sherfane Rutherford is back in the squad after missing the Bangladesh series.
T20I series vs Ireland
After the England series, the Carribeans will travel to Ireland for another 3-match T20I series. However, few players from the England series will be rested from the Ireland series in order to prepare for the important test series against Australia which starts on June 25th.
West Indies have planned a test training camp from 13th June to 21st June before the test series. The newly appointed test captain Roston Chase won’t be there for the Ireland series. Brandon King was also granted leave.
Keacy Carty and Jyd Goolie will be replacing them. Jyd Goolie represented the nation at the Under-19 level, gets his maiden call up for the senior team.
