A spirited effort by pacer Mohammed Siraj led India to a historic six-run win over England in the fifth and the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at the Oval in London on Monday as India levelled the series 2-2. The win over England also gave Shubman Gill-led India 12 crucial points as they moved to third place in the World Test Championship (2025-27 cycle) points table after the end of the series.
India, who were fourth ahead of the Oval Test, exchanged places with England, who have dropped to fourth after being condemned to their second loss in this cycle. Both India and England have won two matches, lost one and drawn one to gain equal points, but the ICC had docked two points from England due to their slow over rate at the Lord’s Test.

Aakash Chopra makes a bold prediction that Ben Stokes led England wont make it to the Finals of WTC 2025-27
Former Indian cricketer now commentator , Aakash Chopra has opined that England wont qualify for the 2027 World Test Championship Final. He reasoned that Ben Stokes and company are likely to be troubled by New Zealand at home and have three tough away series in the ongoing WTC cycle.
England garnered 43.33 percent WTC points in the recently concluded Anderson Tendulkar Trophy 2025 against India. The 5 match test series ended in a 2-2 draw ,with England suffering two points deducted due to the slow over rate. In the video shared on his Youtube channel, Former Indian cricketer now commentator Aakash Chopra, virtually ruled out England’s chances of reaching the 2027 WTC Finals.
“England are hosting New Zealand, India and Pakistan. The series against India has ended in a 2-2 draw. They might beat Pakistan. New Zealand will trouble them. New Zealand are not pushovers,” Chopra said
“Their away tours are against Australia, South Africa and Bangladesh. England are not qualifying. I feel England won’t qualify this time either because they will not win the home series 100 percent, and going away, they will find it difficult in Bangladesh as well. You know what will happen in South Africa and Australia,” he added.
English side the host nation for of WTC Finals over the years have not qualified yet for the Final in the past 3 cycles. They finished 5th in the 2023-25 WTC cycle with 43,18 percentage points. With tours like Ashes commencing in November , the English side under Ben Stokes had tough road map ahead and has to significantly outperform if they wish to feature in the finals of WTC 2025-27.
