Dinesh Karthik congratulates KKR for winning the Indian Premier League 2024. The wicket keeper batter was involved with the franchise from 2018 -2021. Following KKR’s victory over SRH in the Indian Premier League 2024 final on Sunday, May 26, at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, RCB wicketkeeper and batsman Dinesh Karthik praised the team.

In a commanding eight-wicket victory, KKR decisively defeated the most fearsome team in the competition to claim their third IPL championship. After Kolkata’s victory, Dinesh Karthik praised the squad and congratulated Shahrukh Khan, the team owner, as well as all of the players and support personnel.

Notably, Dinesh Karthik joined KKR in 2018 and took Gautam Gambhir’s spot as the team’s captain. The batsman, who was born in Tamil Nadu, led his team to the playoffs in 2018, although they were eliminated in the second qualifying round after falling to SRH. Midway through 2020, after captaining them in 2019, Karthik gave up the leadership, and Eoin Morgan took over. Dinesh Karthik was a member of KKR in 2021 when they finished second, losing to CSK in the championship game.

Dinesh Karthik On KKR Winning The Cup

Dinesh Karthik was happy about the fact that KKR won the league after 10 years. He said :

“Unreal performance from them, very very happy for them from the start. I think it has been a tough journey they’ve waited a decade to get this title back. I know how hard it has been for them, being around them personally as well. Congrats to Shahrukh Khan and Venky Mysore who’ve worked their backsides off to be where they are today. Very good inclusion in Gautam Gambhir, there are many from the support staff as well, you know Abhishek Nayar winning his first title after being around for 17 years,” Karthik told Cricbuzz.

Further speaking ahead, Karthik praised the KKR fans for their continuous support for the team despite their trophy-less run for a decade. He also spoke about the challenge of winning an IPL title calling it an ‘emotional roller coaster ride’.

Winning The League Is Not Easy

Dinesh Karthik later commented n the fact that winning Indian Premier League is not easy. He said :

“So there’s plenty to be happy about but I’m really happy for the team and the city of Kolkata because they like other franchises have a massive fan following and they come in big numbers. It’s a big stadium to fill up and they come in every time the match is played there. Very well led by Shreyas Iyer, good performances by every player. Winning an IPL title is not easy, I’ve been part of this tournament. You go through an emotional roller coaster for about six weeks. It takes every inch of energy out of you. To be where they are, very proud of them and very very happy for them,” he added.

Karthik, meanwhile, participated in his final IPL season in 2024, having declared it to be his final one in the past. With two fifties and an average of 36.22 across 13 innings, the 38-year-old batted brilliantly, scoring 326 runs with a strike rate of 187.35. With 4842 runs from 234 innings, he became the ninth best scorer in the history of the Indian Premier League. In the next phase of his career, the former batter is probably going to be viewed as a pundit.
