The way Aussie all-rounder Cameron Green batted at No. 4 against New Zealand in the first Test in Wellington thrilled Australian Test skipper Pat Cummins. Cameron Green‘s incredible 174 in the first innings, which helped the visitors win by 172 runs, earned him the Player of the Match award.

Cummins was pleased with how quickly Green adjusted, and he is aware of the difficulties a batter faces when asked to take on a new role by the team. Cummins also discussed how effectively Green has adapted to various Test cricketing conditions, whether it was his first-ever Test century in Ahmedabad against India or his 77 against Sri Lanka in Galle.

According to the captain, Green will have a clearer understanding of how to handle challenging situations going forward after his most recent century knock.

Cameron Green has got a blueprint of how to play going forward- Pat Cummins

Although Cummins mentioned that batting at number four is a little different, he found the Greens’ innings to have a particularly tempo.
Following the conclusion of the first Test, Cummins addressed the media as follows:

“I thought it was incredibly impressive and it’s given him a good blueprint of how to play going forward. Batting four is a little bit different, but the tempo of the innings was what stood out to me. We know he can spend time and build up his innings that way, but this was a slightly different way he went about it,”

It was a really smart way he went about it- Pat Cummins on Cameron Green’s approach in Wellington

With a 116-run partnership with Josh Hazlewood for the tenth wicket, Cameron Green further baffled the Kiwis. Green’s ability to manage the strike and still guarantee that the runs came in at a reasonable pace pleased Pat Cummins.

“I thought he (Green) had really clear game plans – used his feet, put pressure on the bowlers but picked his balls, left well and ducked when he needed to. I thought he played it beautifully, sucked up the pressure for four balls then across to Joshy for the last couple. It was a really smart way he went about it, and the scoreboard didn’t stop either,” he expressed.

Green’s performance at No. 4 is, in Cummins’ opinion, evidence of the selectors’ faith in the young player, as Steve Smith filled David Warner’s opening position after his retirement.
