BCCI made some out-of-the-box decisions, like picking young Tilak Verma, but the amazing thing was the return of India’s two best middle-order players KL Rahul & Shreyas Iyer. Now India’s squad for the World Cup 2023 has been announced, which has only 15 members as per ICC rules. Kl Rahul is also in the team as the first-choice wicketkeeper for the World Cup 2023, even though he was picked for the same job, but unfortunately, he could not make his way to the eleven because of his slight injury.
On KL Rahul’s selection, legend Sunil Gavaskar feels he can improve his fitness until the mega event and can be the missing spark for the Men in Blue. KL Rahul is expected to play in the middle order and if believe the reports, then he may also keep the wickets.

Sunil Gavaskar was having an interaction on India Today and said that KL Rahul has proved his worth for India in the middle order. Sunil Gavaskar pointed out that there are 3 ODI games against Australia as well in September where we can his performance and his fitness as well.
“Kl is a proven performer in the middle order with the bat, and I think you allow proven performers just a little bit of leeway. That’s exactly what has happened in this situation. Yes, it can be a bit problematic that he hasn’t played any cricket for the last few months,” said Sunil Gavaskar.
“However, he joins Team India in Sri Lanka now. So, he might get to play a few matches, and there you will see his fitness level. There are also three ODI games against Australia in September. So that is again a series where you can see him perform and his fitness as well,” he stated.
KL Rahul an Asset
Kl Rahul has been the most dependable player for India in the middle order, especially at number five, and has won some matches playing at the number. He was struggling with the injury from the IPL 2023; due to a serious injury in his back, he had to miss the action in Indian colors.
He has plenty of time to get fit for the World Cup 2023, as there are only a few matches left in the Asia Cup 2023 and a series is also coming against Australia. KL Rahul can also be used as a floater and a pinch hitter as the batter has got a wide range of shots and can be the surprise element.
