Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma‘s tenure as a skipper has been topsy-turvy. We saw how India lost a bilateral ODI series against Bangladesh in 2022 by 1-2. Captain Rohit Sharma would be aware of the fact that how the side lost the ODI series against Australia in 2023 even after taking a 1-0 lead.
Rohit Sharma’s captaincy has been under the scanner after the defeat in the ICC WTC 2021-23 final & T20 WC 2022. The main problem for the billion people and selection panel most likely would be that Rohit Sharma isn’t an aggressive skipper just like former skipper Virat Kohli.
There is no such thing as shelf life- Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma was having an interaction with the PTI and made it clear that there is no such thing called as a shelf life. Rohit Sharma pointed out that he as a cricketer/ skipper who goes with the flow and said that he is quite happy with the captaincy across all the formats of the game.
“There is no such thing as shelf life. You get a responsibility, you produce a result and more importantly, you are happy with the responsibility that you have been entrusted with. These are more important questions than the shelf life,” said Rohit Sharma.
“I am a person who goes with the flow. What I feel right now, I would want to do without thinking about what I want to do five or six months later. I like to take things as they come but prepare according to what is in store in the future,” he added.
Critical Asia Cup 2023 for India
After the conclusion of Asia Cup 2023, India is all set to play a 3-match ODI series against Australia in September which would serve as the stepping stone for ODI WC 2023. India can’t just go into the World Cup with a mindset of experiment as this time all the 10 teams are evenly matched.
The likes of Shubman Gill & Ishan Kishan have got a great opportunity to stamp their authority on the opposition. Ishan Kishan though would be tested against the spinners in the middle-overs phase. It won’t be wrong to say that we can expect high-scoring thrillers as there are chances that dew may come into action later in the game which would make life harder for the bowlers.
