Sri Lankan cricket team fans would be wondering how their side got bundled out for a paltry 50 runs in the final against India. Dasun Shanaka‘s brigadier lacked intent and character in the high voltage final. It seemed as if the island nation were not ready for the final. Dasun Shanaka had a forgettable Asia Cup 2023 and perhaps the management will have to make him bat up the order rather than giving him the role of finisher.

Sri Lanka’s decision to open the batting with the destructive left-handed batter Kusal Perera didn’t work well. We should not forget that Kusal Perera has been around the Sri Lankan side for the last decade and despite that, he hasn’t cemented his place in the team.

Poor performance by skipper Dasun Shanaka

In the first round of Asia Cup 2023, we witnessed that how the Afghanistan almost pulled off a heist but Sri Lanka somehow won the match by a mere 2 runs. In that encounter, Sri Lanka’s bowling unit was exposed as most of the bowlers were taken to the cleaners and skipper Dasun Shanaka looked in all sorts of trouble as his all tactics were proving to be ineffective.

Sri Lanka needs to perform consistently if they want to give themselves a chance to win the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The injury to the shrewd spinner Wanindu Hasaranga disturbed the team’s dynamics as Hasaranga is also a handy batter who can change the complexion of the match with his lusty blows.

Questions aplenty for Sri Lanka

The island nation will have to play out of their skin to give themselves a chance to win the marquee ODI WC 2023 because Sri Lanka’s batters have a bad habit of falling like a pack of cards in key matches. Kusal Mendis will have to bat responsibly, the right handed batter looked in sublime touch.

Head coach Chris Silverwood will have to reconsider playing 3-4 spinners in the playing 11 in ODI WC 2023. The pitches in the marquee ODI WC 2023 come under their scrutiny and we most likely would witness competitive tracks. Sri Lanka don’t have a dangerous fast bowling attack as they are way too reliant on the slower bowlers and the opposition teams can decimate their spinners on the given day.
