Ashes 2025-26: Glenn McGrath Predicts A 5-0 Whitewash For Australia

Former Australian cricketer Glenn McGrath has made a massive prediction in favour of his team against England in the upcoming Ashes 2025-26. The legendary fast bowler has backed the hosts Australia to thrash England 5-0 in the five-match series which begins in November later this year. Glenn McGreath‘s remarks came after the Anderson-Tendulkar series ended in a 2-2 draw.

For the record, England have not won the Ashes since 2015, drawing two and losing the other two. Their last Ashes win in Australia came in 2010/11 when they won by a 3-1 margin. Since then, they have not won a single Test match in Australia.

Meanwhile, Australia won by 4-0 when they last hosted England in 2021/22. Ever since, the Pat Cummins-led side has only lost two out of their last 15 Tests on home soil, winning 11 matches, while two games have ended in a draw.

Glenn McGrath Prediction On the Upcoming Ashes 2025/26

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Glenn McGrath said: “It’s very rare for me to make a prediction, isn’t it? And I can’t make a different one- 5-0.”

Glenn McGrath Confident of Australian Bowlers Delivering the Goods

The 55-year-old Glenn McGrath believes that England will definitely find it tough to face Australia’s big 3 in Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood alongside spinner Nathan Lyon. He added in the same show:

“I’m very confident with our team. When you’ve got Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon firing in their home conditions, it’s going to be pretty tough. Plus, that track record England have had, it’d be interesting to see if they can win a Test.”

England’s Poor Record in Australia for Over a Decade

England’s record in Australia is very poor for over a decade. After winning the 2010/11 series, England came back to play in 2013/14 and lost that series 5-0. It was a whitewash as England could hardly compete in any of the games. Cut to 2017/18 and once again Australia won the series 4-0 with one match ending in a draw. The last series in 2021/22 ended 4-0 again in favour of the hosts. England have indeed failed to win after that famous series in 2010/11.

England also failed to win the home Ashes as well drawing 2-2 in 2019 and 2023. England have heralded this new sensation called the Bazball where they have indeed made Test cricket viewing enjoyable. While it has proven a success, the results have been mixed ever since McCullum took charge of this team. The fact is they are yet to beat India and Australia in a Test series ever since he has taken over the side. While the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy ended 2-2, India beat England 4-1 in India in a 5-match series. In 2023, Ashes in UK ended at 2-2.

Things might change and England might upset the odds and beat Australia in Australia later in the year. But after looking at how they performed in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, it is fair to say that the odds are with Australia and they will be favourites to win. Whether they win 5-0 remains to be seen and Glenn McGrath has his own points of views and it is justified with facts as well. We reckon it is going to be a close series with Australia likely to come out on top.

England has to find a way to play smart cricket and if they do that then they can challenge Australia. But if they play Bazball reckless cricket, then Australia might find a way to easily knock England over and win the series handsomely. All in all, an exciting series awaits us in November-December as Ashes will be watched and followed worldwide by everyone. One hopes England rises to the challenge and makes it an epic face-off similar to what we saw in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
