Ashes 2025-26: Cameron Green Sets His Sights On Being an All-Rounder For Ashes.

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has had a tough start to the year 2025. Cameron Green had a back surgery late last year and rehab meant that the Australian all-rounder missed a major chunk of cricket in 2024 and 2025. Having returned to competitive cricket two months ago in the World Test Championship Final and surviving unscathed in the Frank Worrell Trophy, the all-rounder has set his sights firmly for the Ashes later this year.

The pitches in the Tests in the West Indies heavily assisted the bowlers and fast bowlers in particular, Cameron Green still managed to average 30.67 and was the third highest run scorer across the three Tests. But the all-rounder felt that there wasn’t enough to take away from the series due to the vastly different conditions.

Cameron Green’s Views on the takeaways from last series going into Ashes.

Speaking to reporters, Cameron Green said: “I don’t think we’ll be playing on many wickets quite like that in the Ashes, so I don’t think there’s too many takeaways. It was such a tough wicket, especially for the batters to try and get out of the series unscathed was a good effort.”

Cameron Green eyeing a stint in the Sheffield Shield to bolster preparations.

With the opening Test of the Ashes still three months away, Cameron Green is eyeing up a stint with Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield to bolster his preparations ahead of the Australian summer. The all-rounder also believes that it would be a way for him to get back and start bowling, something he hasn’t been able to do since marking his return to competitive cricket in June.

Cameron Green said: “In the past, it’s worked really well when I’ve focused on Shield cricket. That potentially might be the way to go, especially with me working my way back to bowling, to potentially get a few more overs over a few more days.”

Cameron Green Still Uncertain in which game he will finally return to bowling.

Cameron Green was uncertain as to in which game will he finally return to bowling but he labelled the journey exciting after the long injury lay off earlier this year. He said: “I’m not quite certain on what match will I return to bowling, but I’m feeling really good and I’m in a really good spot. It’s just really exciting. It’s been a long road back.”

Cameron Green: A Vital Cog In Australian Test Team.

Cameron Green is an important cog in the wheel for Australia in their Test team. He performed exceptionally well as a pure batter after his comeback from injury and now will attempt to resuming bowling ahead of the big Ashes series. His role in the Ashes will be crucial and whether he can start bowling in that series. If he can, then the dynamics of the team and maybe the playing composition also changes.

He has batted at 3 as a pure batter and performed well even in West Indies when pitches were tough. But if and when he starts bowling, there is the likelihood of Cameron Green going down the order. Then, Australia might have to change their combination and Green will then compete with Beau Webster who has had a terrific series against West Indies as an all-rounder.

We all know that Australia are trying to fix their top order which also includes the Number 3 spot. Usman Khawaja and Sam Konstas opened in West Indies and Usman will be given a long rope at this stage due to his experience. It’s the other two spots that are bones of contention. If Green becomes an all-rounder and can bowl he will most likely go a bit down the order. But if he plays as a pure batter then Australia will have to think about Khawaja’s opening partner and not Number 3 as such. So, a lot of thinking to do for the Aussies.

But with the Ashes, still 3 months away, there is enough time for Australia to find these answers and fix this with Sheffield Shield games also taking place prior to that. As we get closer to Ashes 2025-26, we will get more clarity on Cameron Green’s role and the whole composition of Australia as well.
