The Veteran Bowler James Anderson remains wicketless in the first innings of the second Test Of the Marquee Ashes 2023. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting cites that James Anderson is a champion bowler, and you can never write off someone like James Anderson, due to a couple of underwhelming displays.

Anderson has displayed unwavering resilience in the Test matches, he is one of the eldest players in the team and his form has remained intact even now. The fast pacer has played 180 Test matches and took 686 wickets, with an economy of 2.79, which is a remarkable feat.

“But I think James Anderson, within himself, feels like he’s probably not quite at his best right now.” – Ricky Ponting

Ponting claims that due to his poor outings, Anderson might feel his not in his best position right now. He stated to the latest edition of ICC Review:

“You never write off champions. That’s one thing I know about the game. James Anderson has been a champion of the game and will continue to be until he wants to pull up stumps. Skill wise, it still looks like it’s all there. But I think he, within himself, feels like he’s probably not quite at his best right now.” said Ricky Ponting.

Ricky Ponting also spoke about the success of Scott Boland, and his consistent excellent form. However, Boland failed to make much of an impact in the first Test of the Ashes, thus Mitchell Starc was brought back into the squad for the Second Test of The Ashes, which surprised many including Ricky Ponting.

“I was a little bit surprised. When I turned up here and looked at this Lord’s wicket with the overcast conditions that were expected for the first couple of days, I thought that those conditions would suit Boland down to the ground as well. So, I don’t if there’s any sort of little niggle with Scott.” Ponting said.

“To be honest with you, with Starc in this game so far, he has got the ball to swing a little bit, which is what they want to see from him. But all I’ll say is I was surprised that they made the change.” he concluded.
