In an unexpected move, England fast bowler Josh Tongue was unexpectedly chosen to be part of the starting lineup for the second Ashes Test at Lord’s. This surprising decision resulted in all-rounder Moeen Ali being replaced, resulting in a team composed entirely of seam bowlers. The only alternative option for spin bowling now rests on Joe Root, who can provide occasional tweakers as a part-time option.

Josh Tongue was part of a one-off test against Ireland, and he took 5 wicket haul. The upcoming match against the Australians will undoubtedly serve as a crucial moment in his career. At just 25 years old, he has a golden opportunity to secure a position in the bowling attack, which is undergoing an unavoidable transition.

“Whatever Stokesy asks me to do, I’m here to do it as best I can.” – Josh tongue

Tongue feels immense confidence going against Australia in the second Test of the Ashes 2023, he told the Mail ahead of the Ashes:

“I dreamt as a kid about playing in an Ashes, so to get the nod now is that dream come true. It would be great to get Steve Smith out again. I was pretty happy the first time.” he stated

Due to the absence of Mark Wood, Jofra archer and Injuries of Ben Stokes, Josh Tongue will be a brilliant surrogate. He also mentions that he has strategized his plans and will do whatever Ben Stokes will ask him to do. He Stated:

“That first ball Zak Crawley hit to the boundary — the noise was just unbelievable. From the moment I stepped into the dressing room ahead of the Ireland game, I’ve been made to feel so welcome. Whatever Stokesy asks me to do, I’m here to do it as best I can.” he stated.

“I knew the step up to international cricket would be a big one. To then get five wickets against Ireland was an incredible feeling and should give me confidence against Australia.” he added.
