AFG vs BAN: Bangladesh Completes Whitewash With 6-Wicket Win

Bangladesh minus their original captain Litton Das created a bit of history as they whitewashed Afghanistan by 6 wickets with 2 overs to spare. Bangladesh outplayed Afghanistan in all facets of the game not only in this game but throughout the series. Bangladesh put Afghanistan into bat first and restricted them to 143/9 in 20 overs with Mohammad Saifuddin picking up 3 wickets while Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Nasum Ahmed picked up 2 wickets apiece.

In reply, Bangladesh rode on an unbeaten 64 off 38 balls and others chipped in as well. Bangladesh eventually got to the target in 18 overs and completed the series sweep. Afghanistan did not know what hit them and deserved to lose in the end.

Mohammad Saifuddin’s 3-wicket haul restricts Afghanistan to 143/9

Put into bat first, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran came out to bat for Afghanistan while Shoriful Islam had ball in hand for Bangladesh. Ibrahim made his intentions clear by squeezing it through covers for a boundary. Nasum Ahmed had ball in hand from the other end. Gurbaz hit him by rocking back and hit it to the covers. Gurbaz was not done yet as he hoicked it over right of mid-on for boundary.

Shoriful struck for Bangladesh as Ibrahim went for 7 off 6 balls with a boundary under his name. Shoriful bowled short of a length outside off-stump line. He incurred the top edge and the ball skied up in the air. The ball went up and went down the throat of long-on fielders. Seddiqullah Atal came out to bat next. He got off the mark straightaway. Nasum then got into the act and removed Gurbaz for 12 off 9 balls with 2 boundaries to her name.

Nasum bowled a length delivery much outside off-stump. The batter was lured into the width shot and Gurbaz weighed back to force a miscue. The ball was in the air and Shamim dived to his left at covers flung low to the left at covers. Wafiullah Tarakhil came out to bat next. There was a short run as well in the 4th over for the big side alone was called for. Tanzim Hasan Sakib came into the attack. Atal managed to get things going as he slowly was managing the crease. Tarakhil smoked down the ground as the wife did so by pulling it over deep midwicket for the maximum.

Mohammad Saifuddin came into the attack to bowl the last over of powerplay. He removed Tarakhil for 11 off 13 balls with 1 six to his name. Full toss from the bowler which was a nothing shot. The bowler beat the outside edge of the bat as the batter tried to hack it away. The ball clattered the stumps once and for all. Darwish Rasooli came to the crease now. After the first 6 overs of powerplay, Afghanistan were 39/3 . Saif Hassan came into the attack then. Saif bowled a decent first over,

Rishad Hossain came into the attack next. He gifted 5 wides to the batting side. The 50 came up for Afghanistan in the 8th over. Atal hit Rishad for a boundary to pull between deep backward square leg and square leg. Tanzim returned to the fray. Atal launched him away over deep square leg via the pull shot for the maximum. Nasum came back into the attack. He bowled a tight over as Afghanistan reached 73/3 in 10 overs as the players took Drinks.

Saifuddin returned after the Break. Atal departed for 28 off 23 balls as Saifuddin  was amongst the wickets. Saifuddin bowled a length delivery from over the wicket angled away from the left-hander. Atal slashed it and mistimed the ball this time around. The ball swirled in the air and settle into the hands of Tanzid. Azmatullah Omarzai came out to bat next. Omarzai got off the mark soon. Rasooli hit a boundary off Saifuddin as the bowler overstepped. The free hit yielded a dot ball.

Rishad returned to the attack and got rid of Omarzai for 3 off 6 balls. He bowled a flighted delivery leg break near the fourth stump line with hint of width and the all-rounder was lured to it. Omarzai wanted to play a rash shot and got the top edge straight to Nurul Hasan at point region. Mohammad Nabi came into the attack next and got off the mark straightaway. Nasum changed ends and got rid of Nabi for 1 off 4 balls.

Nasum bowled the worst spell as Nabi played through the line with a vertical bat but ended up getting beaten on the inside edge and watching the ball clutter onto the stumps. Rashid Khan came into bat today. Rashid then went flat and hard over the deep extra cover region for the maximum. Rishad came and saw Rashid hit Rishad for an expensive wicket where he touched the cushions. Rashid pulled it away over square leg for another boundary.

Tanzim got rid of Rashid next for 12 off 7 balls with a boundary and maximum to his name. Short of a length over the fourth stump line. Rashid lacked footwork on the sloppy slog and got the top edge towards fine leg where Nasum took the catch. Abdullah Ahmadzai came out on bat next. Sakib had his tails up and dismissed Ahmadzai for a golden duck. Short of a length a tad slow outside off-stump. Ahmadzai went for the heave and mistimed it towards the right of midwicket. Saifuddin moved to his right and took the catch. Mujeeb Ur Rahman came to the middle. After 15 overs, Afghanistan were struggling at 98/8 in 15 overs.

Shoriful came back into the attack as Mujeeb jammed her bat down in time and it was a boundary. The 100 came up for Afghanistan in 15.3 overs. Rishad Hossain bowled himself out as well. Rasooli went one over them and it was great memories playing with the greats of the game. Rasooli then hit Rishad for a boundary through sweeper cover. Rasooli launched a maximum from Shamim. The ball was another leg break. The batter rocked back and pulled it over deep square leg for a gigantic maximum.

Shoriful welcomed to the crease. Rahman slashed it through extra covers for a boundary. Mujeeb thrashed the ball away to long-on for a boundary. Saifuddin returned to the attack and getting rid of Rasooli. who was dismissed for 32 off 29 balls with 2 fours and a maximum to her name. Fuller length delivery outside off-stump. Rasooli went for hard earned slash and edged it to short third man. Bashir Ahmad came out to bat next. He survived a close call in that over via a run out chance. After 19 overs, Afghanistan are 135/9.

Nasum dropped a catch t long-off with Mujeeb getting a life. Mujeeb managed to get a boundary away through extra cover regions. Mujeeb remained unbeaten on 23 off 18 balls with 4 fours to his name while Bashir Ahmed was unbeaten on 2. 12 extras given by the fielding side.

Mohammad Saifuddin was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/15 in 3 overs. Tanzim Hasan Sakib finished with 2/24 in 4 overs. Nasum Ahmed chipped in with 2/24 in 4 overs. Shoriful Islam finished with 1/33 in 4 overs. Rishad Hossain finished with 1/39 in 4 overs. Saif Hassan bowled an over for 6 runs. So, Bangladesh needed 144 for the win and completed the whitewash.

Chasing 144 for the win, Parvez Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan had ball in hand for Bangladesh. Mujeeb Ur Rahman had ball in hand for Afghanistan. Mujeeb started with a maiden over. Azmatullah Omarzai took the new ball from the other end. Omarzai bowled a decent over. Emon then broke the shackles against Rahman as he smashed it down the ground over long-on for the maximum. Tanzid hit Rahman by cutting it away to backward point for a boundary.

Bashir Ahmad came into the attack next. Emon hit Bashir for a boundary pulling towards short fine leg. Omarzai got the breakthrough for Afghanistan getting rid of Emon for 14 off 16 balls with one four and one six to his name. He bowled a good length delivery off-cutter outside the off-stump line. Emon failed to read the variation and swung through the line early. He lost the grip of the bottom hand and launched it high straight down the ground. Rashid at mid-off settled underneath it and took the catch. Saif Hassan came to the crease next. Omarzai gave away 4 leg byes to the batting side.

Saif then launched it high into the leg side over mid-on for the maximum. Tanzid hit Bashir for a boundary through deep square leg. Saif once again launched it to cover over vacant long leg fence for the maximum to end the over and powerplay. Bangladesh were 47/1 in 6 overs chasing 144 for the win.

Captain Rashid Khan came into the attack next. Tanzid took the attack to Rashid by smashing him for back-to-back boundaries through short third and over midwicket region. Abdullah Ahmadzai came into the attack. Saif once again launched him by going further down. Saif got underneath it and pulled it across the line to deposit into the stands for the maximum over deep backward square leg. Mujeeb returned to the bowling crease as Tanzid climbed onto him by pulling off the back foot for the maximum. The 50-run stand came up between the two players.

Rashid continued and bowled a decent over as Bangladesh reached 79/1 in 10 overs when players took a quick drinks break. Ahmadzai bowled after the break as Tanzid was initially dropped by Rasooli as the batter got a big life. But he did not last long either as Tanzid departed for 33 off 33 balls with 4 fours and a maximum to her name. He bowled a back of a length delivery outside off-stump. Tanzid lost his shape and trying to pull without footwork. He got a top edge straight into the hands of Ibrahim at mid-off. Jaker Ali the captain came out to bat next and got off the mark with a brace.

Rashid Khan burnt another review against Sakib by opting for it. The ball pitched outside leg stump and the decision stood as NOT OUT. Then it was Jaker’s turn to use DRS as he was given OUT to Rashid but overturned in his favour. Saif cracked the shot over extra cover for a boundary. Saif then launched him by flicking it to the right of middle of bat for the maximum. Jaker hit Ahmadzai for a boundary over the keeper’s head. Bangladesh brought up their 100 in 12.4 overs. Hassan managed to hit a pick up shot to backward square leg boundary. Mujeeb returned and got rid of Jaker Ali for 10 off 11 balls with a boundary to her name just.

Rahman bowled a good length ball pitching outside the off-stump. Jaker was beaten on the sweep and hit him around the waist high. The umpire gave it OUT and two umpire’s call means Jaker had to go back to the hut. Shamim Hossain came next and gone first ball.

Mujeeb bowled from around the wicket. It was a good length back in the increase to cut and doesn’t get enough room on offer. The carrom ball spun back in sharply inside with the openers of Gill and Jaiswal better reads. Sweets as well. Nurul Hasan came out to bat next. Rashid Khan delivered a maiden over as Bangladesh are 109/4 in 15 overs with 5 overs to go.

Bashir continued as Saif went back off the top edge over the keeper for the maximum. He repeated the same dose to the same bowler by hitting a maximum by clearing deep midwicket. Saif got to his fifty in 32 balls. Omarzai returned to the attack. He bowled a decent over. Saif then took on Ahmadzai and deposited him over deep midwicket for the maximum. Nurul Hasan hit the winning runs by launching the bowler over extra cover as the ball sailed into the stands for the maximum to end the match. Saif Hassan remained unbeaten on 64 off 38 balls with 2 fours and 7 sixes to his name. Nurul remained unbeaten on 10 off 9 balls with a maximum to his name. 13 extras given by the fielding side.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/26 in 4 overs. Azmatullah Omarzai chipped in with 1/12 in 3 overs. Bashir Ahmad went for 38 in 3 overs. Rashid Khan bowled a miserly better with 0/13 in 4 overs. Abdullah Ahmadzai finished with 1/50 in 4 overs. So, Bangladesh win by 6 wickets with 2 overs to spare to complete the whitewash.  Saif Hassan was awarded the Player of the Match Award. The Player of the Series Award went to Nasum Ahmed.

What Lies Ahead

The T20I series has been clean swept by Bangladesh over Afghanistan by 3 matches to 0. Next up is the 3-match ODI series at Sharjah starting on Wednesday 8th October 2025 at 3:30 PM IST. The first ODI takes place then. Which team will have bragging rights in the ODIS? Only time will tell.
