There is a lot of hype going around at number four for team India for the World Cup 2023. Many cricket experts are suggesting Virat Kohli to take more responsibility and can bat at number four. Former Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar opined that if a wicket falls early, the batting order can be flexible, with Virat Kohli at number four.

The former Indian batter feels India can be more flexible with the batting order; he expressed that sometimes a team needs to be experimental with their batting, especially where the conditions are testing for the batters. Virat Kohli has batted at No.3 position for most of his career and has a brilliant track record.

India has lost early wickets and both wickets have been Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma-  Sunil Gavaskar

In his recent interview with India Today, Sunil Gavaskar pointed out that the management should make a change to the batting order and make Virat Kohli bat at the No.4 position. Sunil Gavaskar stated that the new ball rattles India’s batting line up and in that case Virat can provide stability to the team while batting at no.4 position.

“Any team has to be flexible sometimes, but I don’t want to disturb the top order of the team. I don’t think Rohit Sharma should bat down the order. Yes, you can look at Kohli at No. 4, particularly if a wicket falls early in the inning because the new ball can do some early damage to the top batters as well,” said Sunil Gavaskar.

“Every time India has lost big matches, I think it’s because the new ball in the first 10-12 overs is doing something, India has early wickets, and both wickets out of these wickets have been Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who have been the victims mostly, so it’s difficult,” he added.

“If some batters had been bowling quite regularly, yes, it could be a good thing for India. Look at the successful teams in white-ball cricket that have gone on to win championships; they all had plenty of bowling options,” he concluded.
