Josh Hazlewood, an Australian new-ball seamer, acknowledged that David Warner will be sorely missed. The opener’s international retirement was confirmed after Afghanistan was granted entrance to the T20 World Cup in the 2024 semifinal. The 33-year-old anticipates a smooth adjustment, though, since Australia has made the switch in Tests and ODIs.

David Warner declared the T20 World Cup 2024 to be his last international assignment, having already withdrawn from Test and ODI cricket. The left-hander crushed 178 runs on Monday in St. Lucia, but in the final two innings, he managed just nine runs before losing for six. Afghanistan has officially eliminated Australia after defeating Bangladesh and securing their semi-final qualification.

David Warner averages 33.44 in International T20s for Australia with a strike rate of 142.48. He has scored 3277 runs in his career playing 110 matches for the Baggies. Australia will miss his hard-hitting prowess on the international stage. David Warner has been a match winner for Australia over the years.

David Warner Will Be Missed

Josh Hazlewood speaking in the post-match press conference

“We’ll definitely miss him around the group, out on the field and off the field. He’s had an amazing all-format career. We’ve had Test cricket and ODI cricket and now T20s. You’ve gotten used to it a bit in New Zealand. It’s always different when you lose a player that’s been there for so long. We’ll move on and push forward.”

The southpaw played for several World Cup-winning teams since making his debut for his country in 2009. After winning the World Cup in 2015, the explosive opener went on to win in 2021 and 2023.
Every two years, there is a T20 World Cup, and Hazlewood thinks Australia has capable players for the upcoming tournament and supports them to have an effect. He clarified
“They come around pretty quick, the T20 World Cups, every two years. There might be a couple of changes, but a lot of the guys still play in the franchise cricket if they’re not playing for Australia, so they’re available to be picked. There’s some class players in our 15, and we’ve got a couple on the bench as well. So, you’d think it’d be an actual slow change. I don’t think there’d be anything drastic.”

Australia will be back in action in September taking on England.
