After the Boxing Day Test concluded, Pakistani Test captain Shan Masood had a few words of appreciation for the curators at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). With one game left in the series, the Men in Green lost by 79 runs in an exciting battle. Shan Masood displayed exemplary leadership skills in the 2nd Test match as his tactics were spot on.

It was a very sporting wicket at the MCG, which set up a four-day match between bat and ball. After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, Pakistan bowled Australia out for 318 runs, with their new-look pace attack playing a significant role in the match.

When Pakistan came to bat, the dependable Australian pacers, led by captain Pat Cummins, also left their mark. Even though they were bowled out for 264 in the first innings, the visitors had taken control of the situation after limiting the hosts to 16-4 in the second innings. Nevertheless, the Australians overcame the dangerous situation to give Pakistan a target of 317 runs.

This is the blue print that we need to play Test cricket-Pakistan skipper Shan Masood during the post-match presentation

After the completion of an exciting contest of test cricket, Pakistani Skipper Shan Masood said that he was pleased with the way they have played and take out some positives from this match to the Sydney. He also thanked the ground staff for their efforts.

“A lot to work on but this is the blue print that we need to play Test cricket. Like I said Australia are ruthless, you need to convert the 50s to 100s. I am very happy about how we played the game and we will take the positives to Sydney. I would just take a moment to thank the ground staffs, this was one of the best grounds we have played a Test on,” Pakistan skipper Shan Masood said during the post-match presentation

The conditions were a center of attraction during the build-up of this tour. The low-and-slow pitch in Canberra for their warm-up match against the Prime Minister’s XI did not sit well with Pakistan. On the other hand, the Optus Stadium in Perth provided them with a deadly surface for the first game of the series.

We did falter for a brief while, and that’s when we were thwarted- Shan Masood

The game’s pivotal moment came when Abdullah Shafique dropped a catch at first slip to give Mitchell Marsh another chance in the third inning. If the opportunity had been seized, the hosts would have been down to 20–5.

Rather, Mitchell Marsh capitalized on the chance to put his team back in the lead by scoring 96 runs off 130 deliveries. Shan Masood reflected on the fact that we did let slip away some crucial chances, and Australia are the team that would make the most of it if you gave them a little bit of a chance.

“We might say that we could have done this or could have done that but that does not matter in the end. You look at the efforts and we were in a winning position at one stage that is something heartening to see,” he said.

We did let slip away a few moments and that is when we were outplayed. Australia are a quality side and if give them even a bit of sniff which we did, you end up on the losing side,” Shan Masood added.

Pakistan’s last Test victory in Australia was in 1995, and they have one more chance to make redemption during this tour. In the third and final Test of the series against the hosts at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), the Men in Green will be hoping to avoid a whitewash .
