He is a regular captain after Virat Kohli stepped down from captaincy in all three formats. Rohit Sharma led the side in the 2023 World Cup in India and they had an amazing 10-match unbeaten streak till the finals where they unfortunately lost to Australia. Rohit Sharma is all set to lead Team India in the upcoming t20 World Cup.

He is the Captain for the near future as uncertainty is hovering near his long-term future. The former Mumbai Indians captain will turn 38 years of age next year and it will be interesting to see till how long will he be captain and play for the nation.

Rohit Sharma is not finished yet, says Yograj Singh

Yograj Singh then gave examples of former stars like Mohinder Amarnath and Garfield Sobers to back his point.

“I have never been able to understand all this talk about old age. If you are 40-42 or even 45, if you are fit and performing well, what’s the matter? People here believe that once you’re 40, you are old, your kids have grown up and you’re done. This player is nearing 40 and it’s time to move on. The truth is that you are not finished,” Yograj told Sports 18 News .

“Mohinder Amarnath was 38 years old (33) when he won India the World Cup. He was your Player of the Match in the final,” he said.

“It’s time to get rid of this age-factor from Indian cricket. Rohit Sharma and Viru (Virender Sehwag) are great players in my book. These have never thought about fitness and training. If Rohit does that, he could end up playing till 50. Sir Gary Sobers wrote in his book that if he knew fitness was so important, he would have never gone to parties. So Sobers said, had he focused on training, he would have scored plenty of runs. Age never matters, fitness does,” he added.

Going into the T20 World Cup Rohit Sharma’s form has not been good. Although people are backing him to do well in the World Cup. The former MI captain has not been able to contribute with the bat and his franchise has been the first team to get knocked out from the league stages.
