Son of former England captain Michael Vaughan, Archie Vaughan, has agreed to his first professional contract with Somerset. The 18-year-old, who attended Millfield School from the age of 15, is a top-order hitter and offspinner. He joined the Taunton program in 2020. His contract will go into effect on November 1 and initially cover the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

In 2022, Michael Vaughan made his debut for the second team of Somerset. He currently plays cricket locally for Taunton St Andrews. During the main squad’s preseason tour of the United Arab Emirates, he participated in the Abu Dhabi T20 Counties Super Cup third-place play-off against his father’s county, Yorkshire, and scored 35 runs off 28 balls in a three-wicket victory. He hasn’t yet played for the first team.

“It’s something that I’ve worked extremely hard for and it’s something that I’ve strived for since I was a kid, so to get the opportunity for a club where I’ve really enjoyed myself over the last few years is an honour,” Archie told Somerset’s club website.
“I will be looking to gain as much experience as I can and learn as much as I can from the more experienced players in the dressing-room,”

Somerset’s Director On Archie

Somerset director of cricket Andy Hurry said:
“Archie is a young man with a bright future ahead of him. Since joining the academy, he has demonstrated a genuine and strong desire to work incredibly hard and improve every facet of his game. This hard work alongside his impressive on-field performances have led to second XI opportunities, in which he has flourished,”
Between 2003 and 2008, Michael Vaughan captained England, leading them to a historic Ashes victory in 2005. He also played 82 Tests and 86 ODIs.

Archie, son of Michael Vaughan  is the latest in a long line of former England players’ kids who are playing domestic cricket. Rocky and Corey Flintoff, the children of Andrew Flintoff, play for the Lancashire team. Last month, Rocky made headlines when he scored a century for the Lancashire 2nd XI against Warwickshire.

Josh de Caires, an offspinning all-rounder who plays for Middlesex, is a first-team member of the England Lions and was a part of their training camp last winter. He is the son of former England captain Michael Atherton. The son of Phil Mustard, Haydon Mustard, played for Durham this season in his first-class debut and for England at the U19 World Cup.
