Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill expressed disappointment following his team’s 33-run loss to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The match took place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday. Marcus Stoinis’ impressive half-century was complemented by Yash Thakur’s five-wicket haul, leading Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to their first-ever victory over Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL.

Following the match, Shubman Gill remarked that the Gujarat Titans’ batting performance was subpar and failed to complement their strong bowling display against Lucknow Super Giants.

It was a good wicket to bat on, a poor batting performance by us. We got a decent start but lost wickets in the middle and couldn’t recover from that. Our bowlers were exceptional as they restricted them to 160-odd, just that our batters let us down,” Shubman Gill said at the post-match presentation.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), choosing to bat first, capitalized on Marcus Stoinis’ 58 off 43 balls and his crucial 73-run partnership with captain KL Rahul (33 off 31) for the third wicket, setting a total of 163 for 5. Nicholas Pooran’s quickfire 32 off 22 balls added to the late surge in LSG’s innings. Gujarat Titans faced a challenging chase, struggling against Yash Thakur’s impressive 5-wicket haul (5/30) and Krunal Pandya’s effective bowling (3/11). They were eventually bowled out for 130 in 18.5 overs.

It was tremendous to watch our bowlers bowl- Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill commended his bowlers for their efforts in limiting Lucknow Super Giants to 163 runs. He praised their performance on what he believed to be a good batting track. Gill noted that Gujarat Titans had anticipated Lucknow Super Giants to score more runs, but he was pleased with his bowlers’ ability to restrict them to a lower total.

It was tremendous to watch our bowlers bowl, we were looking forward to restricting them around 160-165,” Shubman said.

When asked about David Miller’s absence in the match, Shubman responded,

Miller is the kind of a player who can change a game in a couple of overs, because I think this total was very gettable for us.”

Shubman Gill was dismissed by Yash Thakur, who claimed the first five-wicket haul of the season with a superb delivery. When asked about his dismissal, the Gujarat Titans captain said,

I thought it was the last over of the powerplay and I just wanted to make the most of it, just that I missed that ball as I tried to play a bit too square.”
