Shaheen Shah Afridi along with Babar Azam celebrated their victory against Ireland. Afridi played a crucial role by displaying strong performance with both bat and ball ensuring the win for Pakistan.
Pakistan views their elimination from the T20 World Cup 2024 as a lesson in resilience despite a difficult three wicket victory over Ireland. Shaheen Shah Afridi was the top performer by establishing his rhythm early with the ball and scoring key runs with the bat to lead his team to victory.
What Shaheen Shah Afridi Said
In a post-match interview after picking up his Player of the Match award, Afridi said,
“The wicket was supporting the new ball, we just tried to hit our good areas and strike early, and thankfully, our plans were a success. My idea was to bowl fuller”
He also spoke about his hard hitting batting by stating,
“That’s my job, I come late (to bat) in the innings, I just hit. The team needed it. I am always trying to hit sixes.”
Pakistan who were third in the table had pinned all their hopes on a deflated Ireland side which had only two losses in the tournament to steal the two points from the hosts USA and provide Pakistan with a fighting chance to face none other than Pakistan itself in the group’s final match.
Afridi said,
“We didn’t play good cricket which our country demands. There are few areas we need to improve quickly, Champions Trophy is coming. We have to improve and we’ll have to grow as a team.”
“Crowd – they always come and support us, thank you everyone for the support. It’s tough times but they always come and support us, that’s what we need as a team.”
