Top fast bowler of Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi urged fans to support the squad during difficult times. Babar Azam led Men in Green had a rough start in the 2024 T20 World Cup after losing their opening matches against the USA and India.

Pakistan only managed a win against Canada in the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2024. Although his win keeps their qualification for the Super 8s alive but it certainly looks difficult for the team to make it.

What Shaheen Afridi Said

The Pakistan team has received severe criticism from their fans and experts after a very disappointing performance in the ICC mega event.

In an interview with Cricwick Shaheen Afridi pleaded with the fans to support their home team by stating,

“Everyone supports you in good times, but I’ve always said that fans must support us in tough times. We are your team, not a gully cricket team or a team where players have been picked based on recommendations. If you can’t support the team now, you are just like the media.”

Afridi has taken two wickets from three matches with an impressive economy rate of 6.91. Pakistan would certainly want their star bowler to keep up the form and turn the situation around for the team.

Shaheen Afridi on Mentor Shahid Afridi

Shaheen Afridi also spoke about how he has worked on his batting along with his mentor and father-in-law Shahid Afridi to provide big shots at the end of the innings.

He added,

“I’ve worked very closely with him (Shahid Afridi) and have always worked on my batting in Moin Khan’s academy. My role is to hit boundaries in the last couple of overs. So, I mostly practice that.”

On June 16, Shaheen will play for Pakistan against Ireland at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida.

Pakistan is ranked third in the Group A points table. They must win their final group-stage match against Ireland to remain in contention for a spot in the Super 8.
