Scotland Cricket Team decimated West Indies and won the match by 42 runs. The World Cricket witnessed another upset as earlier Namibia had dismantled Sri Lanka in Group A. Scotland made a statement that they are not just here to participate. On the other side, West Indies would be dejected and would be flabbergasted as they were completely outplayed.

George Munsey on Fire

West Indies had won the toss and had opted to bowl first due to overcast conditions. Scotland had a brilliant power play where they scored 54 runs for the loss of no wickets. West Indies slowly clawed their way back into the game with a couple of wickets. Scoring boundaries was not easy due to the dimensions of the field and at the same time, the bowlers were using a lot of variations.

George Munsey was looking ominous as the batter but he was facing difficulty in clearing the fence. At the end of 15 overs, Scotland’s score was 117-3 and it seemed that a score of around 180 is on the cards. George Munsey got vital support from MacLeod and Chris Greaves as both of them played handy cameos. In the last over Munsey took the score to a par 160-5 where he scored 66 runs in 53 balls where he struck 9 fours.

Dismal Batting Display from West Indies

The Men in Maroon had a great start to the power-play overs where they scored 53 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. But the introduction of spin from both ends meant that West Indies are in deep trouble. From 58-2 in 7.3 overs, the team got bundled out to 118 runs in 18.3 overs. Not a single batter apart from Jason Holder scored 30-odd runs.

Mark Watt and Michael Leask took 5 wickets amongst themselves and conceded only 26 runs in their 8 overs. The spinners made Caribbean batters dance on their tone. Richie Berrington’s captaincy was spot on as he made sure that the batters have to work hard for every run.

Problems a Plenty for West Indies

West Indies should try to use Jason Holder in the power-play overs as the bowler is highly experienced. It looks like there is no camaraderie among the players as there was no responsibility taken by any batter. West Indies played 55 dot balls in their innings which is unacceptable at this level. This loss will hurt West Indies not because they lost against Scotland but because there was no fight and intent from the team.

Ecstatic Scotland

Scotland Cricket has announced its arrival at the global event. They had played only 2 T20Is before the start of the tournament. Scotland exhibited great teamwork as defending 160 runs was never easy given the firepower West Indies has. Scotland would be wary of the fact that they still have to win to reach the marquee event.
