Considering Sarfaraz Khan‘s impressive start with the Indian test team, former captain of India Sourav Ganguly has stated that Khan’s style of play is better suited for test cricket. India’s middle-order batter, Sarfaraz Khan, has presented a strong case for himself.

Sourav Ganguly discussed his views on the future of the young batter. In Rajkot, Sarfaraz, who received his Test cap from former India captain Anil Kumble, left a lasting impact.

Sarfaraz Khan emulated the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Dilawar Hussain, and Shreyas Iyer by smashing two half-centuries on his debut. Sarfaraz has scored 3912 runs in 66 first-class innings at an impressive average of 69.85, including 14 centuries and 11 half-centuries.

‘His Game is Suited for It’: Sourav Ganguly Predicts the Future of Sarfaraz Khan

Ganguly was questioned about why the Delhi Capitals franchise did not retain Sarfaraz when he was speaking in an interview with RevSportz. To provide some context, the former captain of India was the team’s mentor in 2019 and is currently the Director of Cricket for the same team.

“No, I think he’s more of a five-day player. His game is suited for that. T20 is a different format. And the amount of runs he scored in domestic cricket, in the Ranji trophy and in first-class cricket has been phenomenal. And as they say, if you score runs, it doesn’t go to waste. And that’s exactly what’s happened to Sarfaraz,” Ganguly responded.

After making his IPL debut at the age of 17, Sarfaraz joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore, but he was not able to establish himself in the competition. Now, he is unsure if he will play in the next edition of the league.

However, he has been one of the top batters in the first-class format when it comes to red-ball cricket. This led to a strong debut performance in Rajkot, when he went on to help India win the test by scoring two half-centuries in each of the two innings.

Sarfaraz Khan was only able to score 14 runs in the first two innings, unable to have the same kind of impact on Ranchi. He will, however, have the opportunity to wrap up the series on a strong note as India prepares to play England after winning the five-match test series 3-1.
