Many questioned if Sanju Samson would be able to meet the expectations of both the team and the fans when he was announced as the Rajasthan Royals (RR) franchise’s captain. Even though Sanju Samson was still somewhat young, RR management believed he was involved in enough games to be considered for a leadership position.
RR wanted a captain who understood what it meant to be a member of this team. Sanju was the ideal choice for the leadership role. Sanju Samson, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), recently shared his story of how he was given the chance to lead the team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2021.
Samson joined the Royals in 2013, and despite spending two seasons with the Delhi Daredevils (DD), he soon established himself as one of their most trustworthy players at a relatively young age. Samson thought he was ready when RR’s lead owner asked him about the chance to be the skipper.

Following a game in Dubai, RR primary owner Manoj Badale approached Sanju with the opportunity to captain the Royals in the 2022 Indian Premier League. Sanju was keen on holding onto this significant yet thrilling responsibility. Without any second thought, he accepted the offer.
At the Kochi “Star Nahi Far” event hosted by Star Sports, Sanju was questioned over his response to being invited to lead RR. He claimed that he knew he could lead the group the instant he was asked to.
“I think we were playing in Dubai, and our lead owner, Manoj Badale, came up to me and asked whether I’m ready to lead the side. I said I am ready. So that was it, it was as simple as that, and I felt like I had played enough matches and spent enough time in this franchise to know that I can do that role, and I was confident that I could do it. And I was very happy that things are going good,”
Samson has demonstrated glimpses of being an excellent man-manager and a proactive leader who sets the tone. He led RR to the IPL 2022 final game, which they ultimately lost to the Gujarat Titans.

Sanju Samson, who is renowned for his explosiveness at bat, hasn’t hesitated to take huge swings right out of the bat when necessary.
Samson feels that he needs to play a different style of cricket because there is a lot of rivalry for slots on the Indian team. The right-hander believes that displaying aggression from the beginning brings forth his greatest qualities.
He said:
“I always wanted to stand out with the way I bat. I just wanted to create my own style of batting and no matter even if it was the first ball, I just want to go out there and hit a six. So, that’s a shift in the mindset that I had and I just wanted to do something different like why do we have to wait for 10 balls to hit a six?,”
Sanju Samson also emphasized throughout the chat how crucial it is to be hungry and keep getting better in order to meet the demands of the game.
On March 24, RR will play their first IPL 2024 match against the Lucknow Super Giants.
