David Lloyd, a former cricketer for England, has shared his thoughts on the much-discussed Virat Kohli vs. Sachin Tendulkar argument within the cricket community. Notably, there has been much discussion about who of the two Indian cricket players, Kohli or Virat Kohli, is the greatest to have ever played the game since Kohli’s rise to prominence in the modern era.

During the ODI World Cup 2023, Kohli achieved his 50th century in the format against New Zealand, surpassing Tendulkar’s record of the most ODI hundreds (49). The 35-year-old also broke Tendulkar’s record of 673 runs by scoring 765 runs from 11 innings at an average of 95.62, the most runs ever in a single World Cup.

Sachin Tendulkar VS Virat Kohli

Being asked to pick one out of the two legendary players, Lloyd chose Tendulkar as his go to man in Test cricket.

“In Test cricket, Sachin “I did a bit of research. Got on social media and I threw it out there. 95 per cent said, Sachinâ€æBetween him and Kohli, two fabulous players, it’s not an argument, Sachin. The other guy is incredible, Virat Kohli. Dangerous. Would take the game away. Exciting player,” said Lloyd in TalkSPORT Podcast.

“So in Test, between him and Virat Kohli, two fabulous players. Its not really an argument, Sachin”, Llyod provided his final verdict.

But Lloyd stated that, given Virat Kohli’s outstanding record in both ODIs and T20Is, he would prefer him above Sachin when choosing an all-format XI.

“Sachin was sublime. All is right with the world, but I like a bit of rock and roll. We’re talking about two of the greatest players there’s ever been. We’re trying to look at T20Is and ODIs, you could easily go for Kohli,” he said.

Notably, Sachin Tendulkar has only scored ten runs in his one T20I appearance, whereas Virat Kohli has amassed 4037 runs from 109 innings at an average of 51.75 with one hundred and 37 fifties. Virat Kohli is the most productive batsman in the format. In addition, Kohli holds the record for most runs in both the T20 World Cup (1141 runs) and the Indian Premier League (7924 runs). He will be motivated to maintain his current form in the upcoming competition, which gets underway in the West Indies and the USA on June 1.
