Excitement Builds as ‘SA20 League 2024’ Second Edition Kick Off Today

In a highly anticipated event, the second edition of the South African T20 League 2024 is set to commence today, promising cricket enthusiasts an action-packed tournament. With teams gearing up for fierce competition, cricket fans can expect thrilling matches, talented players, and unforgettable moments throughout the league. Cricket South Africa set to begin the tournament across various cricket venues in South Africa. As the T20 format gains immense popularity globally, the South African league has emerged as a hotbed for nurturing young talent and providing a platform for seasoned cricketers to display their skills.

The second edition of the SA T20 League is expected to elevate the cricketing spectacle to new heights, with increased participation from international stars, promising young players, and seasoned campaigners and will also boost interest of cricket among young generation.

The tournament will be played from January 10 to February 10  2024 and featuring six team from six different cities of South Africa and total of 34 matches has to be played. The League will be played in a double round robin format and playoffs. Each team is allowed to have 17 players in their Sqaud and can have a maximum of 7 overseas players. Reason why SA T20 Leagues have recieved so much attention within a short span is the ownership of five out of six franchise is owned by an Indian Business Entities like RPSG Group, Indian Cements, Indiawin Sports, JSW Group and SUN Group.

SA T20 Teams:

The SA20 comprises six franchises- MI Cape Town, Joburg Super Kings, Durban Super Gaints, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, all of which are owned by the owners of IPL Teams.

SA20 2023:

The SA 2022-23 was the inaugural season of SA20, and Aiden Markram’s Sunrisers Eastern Cape beat Pretoria Capitals in final to clinch their first title and that in Inaugural season. The winning team bagged a whopping of Rand 35 Million(US$2.37 million) while the runners-up, Pretoria Capitals received a half of a prize money won by a Champions. English wicket keeper batsman Jos Buttler was awarded the ‘Batter of the season’ while Roelof van der Merwe was named ‘Bowler of the season’.

SEC vs JSK:

Now less than six hours left to the kick-start of the second edition. First game of the tournament is to be played between defending champion Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings that ended second in a points table last edition.  Faf du Plessis and Aiden Markram to lead their team JSK and SEC respectively looks good and well balanced and can expect a thrilling encounter tonight.

PITCH CONDITION AND HEAD TO HEAD:

The forecast is for high humidity, which should be good news for the swing bowlers and a high of 21 degrees at St. George’s Park on Wednesday night. There is a chance of drizzle but it won’t much affect the course of the game. St. George has always been a bowlers friendly and surface will provide fine pace and bounce. 160 will be a par total for the opening game.

Sunrisers and Super Kings have faced each others thrice in SA20. Super kings came out victorious in two out of three matches while Sunrisers has only won one.
